I work there, and I hate you. You are rude, and have no consideration. Jerk.

Last night at work almost every person yelled at me, even though I was super polite, and answered all of their questions. People just aren't friendly when they speak to strangers over the phone. I understand being rude to a telemarketer, but at DA, you call US, we don't call YOU. All I'm asking is that I go through one night of work without being called stupid or having the customer scream obscenities at me. Jeez.

I don't want to quit my job. I work in other departments, not just DA. That's not the point. My point is, no matter who is answering the phone, whether it be me or another guy or gal, why should ANY operator be treated this way? It's not just the phone company, either. I've witnessed this attitude toward people in other fields too. Especially waiters. Those guys get it, but in person. Poor waiters.

Time to get another job honey if it's getting to you that much.
I do not yell at the operators but I do yell at the stupid computers, and I do know that doesn't help at all. I hate that I have to go through automation before I get a human that can actually understand and help me. I asked for something like the Erie County SPCA and the computer says "You said Erie County Specialties and Commodities right?". NO. I don't think a computerized person has ever been able to give me a number. They always pass me on to the human. Maybe people are yelling at the situation and not you. I know people can be rude to people over the phone because they don't have a face to connect with whereas they might be embarrassed to say what they are saying in person.
I work on the phone also with patients. Believe you me, they can be rude and obnoxious - mostly it's the elderly.

I'm not rude to the directory assistance people...I know that it charges me to make phone calls to them, so why waste my money by being rude?
My friend was rude to a DA person once and they gave her the wrong phone number. I thought it was pretty funny and totally deserved.

Rarely, simply because it takes less time to look it up on-line than to say the listing, repeat it when the computer doesn't understand, and then repeat it again for the operator. They are upset at the situation, not at you. You are a convenient scapegoat since you work for the phone company.

I am never rude. I was a long distance operator for years and I know how people are. Pretty brave over the phone, aren't they?

I don't call Directory Assistance. If I did, I would be as polite as possible. I am the one calling for help, after all!
I am sorry you are subjected to rude people. It's a shame people cannot be more civil. Can you refer these "mental giants" to your supervisor? Maybe you can pass them off to someone who has the authority to tell these "yahoos" to lay off.

yes I do and I always say please and thank you and I'm really nice to them. More often than not they are rude to me. I'm sorry people are so rude to you but that's how it is in all customer service jobs. If you hate it so much then maybe you should ask not to work in the DA dept of your job anymore.

I frequently call Comcast 411 and they're awful. The voice system never understands me even when I say Comcast Cable perfectly. They often give me wrong numbers. Even the live operators have given me sh*t numbers and I have to speak to the supervisors who are able to get it right.

i hate you too cause half the time it is some automated thing first and by the time we get to you we are annoyed and pissed off cause we just had to go through all that automated garbage, so here is a question for you...does the automated service that DA offers make your job easier? if you cant hack it then quit!
