They went wrong with the whole "taking the entire Bible literally" bit.
Y'know, the book that says insects only have 4 legs, rabbits chew cud, the sky is a solid dome with stars stuck in it, and the earth is flat with corners.
They don't seem to realize that it's supposed to be a moral guidebook, not a replacement for science & history.

*Scientists know that carbon dating is only accurate within a certain time frame. This is why it has become used less and less in favour of multiple other dating methods, such as radiometric dating, that are far more accurate and reliable up to the millions of years.
*The top layers being older than layers below them (to the guy that mentioned it), that's a result of sedimentary redepositing. Do some research on paleontology and geology to learn how these things happen.
*There is no evidence of any global flood (but there is evidence of many smaller floods in certain parts of the world after the last Ice Age).
*There are cave paintings and other records dating from before 6000 years ago.
*The Theory of Evolution only deals with biology, not the origins of the earth.
*Religion is not a good substitute for science. Successfully and scientifically disproving any of the previous bulleted points would earn one a Nobel Prize.

Well, if you wish to know our stance on it and personally it is not a matter of salvation, unless you use it to say the Bible is wrong, there are three schools of thought.

First, God created everything with a faux age. Ergo you cannot trust your carbon 14 dating. Plus carbon dating only works up to a certain point and not the millions of years ( but since I am not a scientist I cannot state that with certainty)

Second, The Jewish word used for day was not a literal 24 hour period but a time reference that could even translate as 6 epochs as it does for 6 days. (double check that as it has been a long time since school and again I do not know ancient Hebrew and had to take my teachers word for it.

Third, the 6k rule was done by a Arch Bishop Usher who used the "a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like a day to the Lord" quote out of the Bible (Psalms?) Did his math and made a cute little statement that has stuck around for around a thousand years or a day your pick!

But, again who cares how old the Earth is? The Bible only says that God created it in six days and rested. You prove he did not and I will listen, but you and I both know we are not going to agree and truth is neither of us much cares.

68 million is a little old for a dinosaur even by scientific standards. there must have been something wrong with the carbon dating. When you go back this far, you can't double check it. And in the Bible, day can be much longer than 24 hours. IT's passing of day and night. Who knows how long that could have been in the earth's early years?

The bible says God created a circle of earth with four corners. (Never understood that, but apparently God does.

So the dinosaur must have been found outside of that circle of earth that God created. Like the Grand Canyon, it's outside God's circle, so it is a lot older.

The only things that apply to God's timeline are the things that can be seen from that tall mountain mentioned in the Bible. Every thing else is explainable by science.

You would do better to post a link to the white paper research from the scientists who did the work. Yahoo! News is making a bald assertion based on what science has reported and lacks both the necessary credentials to interpret the data as well as the inclination. After all, sensationalism sells, n'est ce pas?

There is an alternative to this: DNA is known to be highly perishable under even the least of provocations. Oxygen, for example, is known to act as a pair of scissors would, snipping it to shreds. Are we really supposed to believe that for 68,000,000 years this fossil was shielded from the effects of oxygenation? That seems preposterous. More likely, the fossil is believed to be that old based upon its position in the fossil strata, which is believed to be of a certain age. No doubt that since they now have clear evidence that the strata may not be as old as previously thought they will rethink the age of the fossil?

Methinks not.

And 68 million year old dinosaurs are considered relatively 'new' ones. Some date back to 180 million years old.

Well nobody knows exactly ho old the earth is because there is no real proof.... the bible does not really says it is billions, millions or anything like that... scientist do not know for sure the age either, so when they say a billion, it can be a million :)

I have asked that question to my sister as she is a bible thumper, and she said they're not real and a ploy by satan to try and confuse the true believers and lead them astray.

When you reject divine knowledge then anything that you call the truth is based on that rejection, and any teenager can tell you that truth is based on believing the opposite of what the authority figures in your life teach.
