Only Christians believe this. I believe he was a messenger of God and to be respected greatly for his mission, but Jesus was a man, not God.

Jesus is never recorded in the Bible as saying the exact words, “I am God.” That does not mean, however, that He did not proclaim that He is God. Take for example Jesus’ words in John 10:30, “I and the Father are one.” At first glance, this might not seem to be a claim to be God. However, look at the Jews’ reaction to His statement, “We are not stoning you for any of these, replied the Jews, but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God” (John 10:33). The Jews understood Jesus’ statement to be a claim to be God. In the following verses, Jesus never corrects the Jews by saying, “I did not claim to be God.” That indicates Jesus was truly saying He was God by declaring, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30). John 8:58 is another example. Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, before Abraham was born, I am!" Again, in response, the Jews take up stones in an attempt to stone Jesus (John 8:59). Why would the Jews want to stone Jesus if He hadn’t said something they believed to be blasphemous, namely, a claim to be God?

Most Christians will say yes, Jesus is God. They are the Christians who hold the Trinity doctrine to be true. God the Father, Jesus His Son, and the Holy Spirit are all one God. It doesn't make sense to me. I am one of those people who believe God is God and Jesus is His Son.

You've got the answer already from loads of people. But I wanted to add that you shouldn't apologize for asking your question. How do we learn anything if we are afraid to ask.

This concept is one that many theologians and scholars have struggled to find a concise and easily understandable answer to.

God Bless

P.S. and Yes, from most Christian's points of view, Jesus and God are one (with the Holy Spirit). It's certainly what I believe anyway!

Not a basic question :-)

Jesus is not God, never was. He even admits that 'only the Father in heaven is truly good', when someone called him 'good master'. Besides that, he had porblems doing miracles with certain people and entire towns, 'supposedly' because of unbelief. If you were 'The Supreme God', you could do anything regardless of someone's 'belief' in you.

Jesus was just a mystic as best. There's plenty of his kind to this day in the world who do 'miracles'.

No, if he truly existed he was a man just like any other. We all come from Universal Divine Energy, and all have the same abilities to heal or manifest miracles, we just don't believe it. I believe that if Jesus did in fact live, that he was a highly evolved being who chose to reincarnate at that time to try to teach the world about Love and Compassion. Unfortunately the message never got across.
Being a Pagan, I also believe that though Jesus may have been of Jewish parents, his teachings and beliefs were much broader than many of the religions of the time.

Yes.

What's the whole point of salvation if He wasn't? Check this: God at the
beginning of time sets up laws, scientific laws, gravity,
etc. He also sets up a basic law of obedience: love God and
love your neighbor. Man broke these two laws (the core of
the Ten Commandments). All of us break these laws. God has
already said if you don't follow these laws you will be put
to death. But since He loves His creation, He doesn't want
to destroy them. He wants a way to save them. But how?
Sacrifice. Executing the consequence but on someone else.
But who could be worthy enough to be sacrified for billions
of people since the beginning of time? God. So He went to
earth, and died for the sins of man.

All He asks now is for you to accept that. That is
salvation. He doesn't want you to pull up a list of things
so you can be 'Christian'. He just wants you to accept that
He died for you and that your sins are forgiven when you ask
of it to be.

Now how about attitudes and following laws and
regulations and all this jazz. You have to see God as a
friend rather than a cop. Just for an example, if you
hang out with friends that smoke all the time, you are
influenced to do so yourself and might take up smoking.
In the same way, if you hang out with God and people that
believe in Him, you will be influenced to live that kind of
life. The change is progressive, and to some people
instant. But it all starts out with befriending God.

He is the son of God and a part of the Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) - so yes, technically. He was on Earth as God in man form. And interestingly - Genesis 1:26 says "26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness..."
Notice it states "us" and "our" not "mine" or "my."
