ok my hubby and i are fighting over this. I really dont want carpet in there for multiple reasons-allergies, carpets hold all sort of crap, baby vomit. He says we cant afford anything else i would sacrifice anything to not do carpet. Is it as bad as i think? What would be best?

What about those peel and stick square tiles? They're very cheap, fast and easy to install, and you could even do a cute checkerboard pattern.

I don't care for carpets either, but I think in the baby's room it is ok, because it is not a high traffic area, and it is good for the baby to play on. Just make sure everyone takes there shoes off and I put an area rug on top of the carpet to protect it a little more.

Depends but I would also strongly suggest something other than wall to wall carpet. If budget is an issue, there are do-it-yourself faux wood floors you can attach yourself. You can also have a cement floor, paint a pretty border around the perimeter and then use an area rug. Allergens is one thing, but the vomitting is another issue - my daughter threw up so many times in her room I was glad we had an area rug that we could take out and clean when necessary.

well, you are right. Carpet does hold in the germs. On the other had, the carpeting adds cushion for your baby. You can compromise and put in an inexpensive hardwood floor and have a rug. If you do put in carpet, invest in a carpet cleaner. You can get a good one for about $150. Good Luck and I hopt this helps!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a carpet in the nursery. Just make sure you vacuum daily and wash it very 3-6 months. Clean baby vomits or spills right away don't wait.
Keep the pets with fur out of the nursery. Hope this helped.
Best of luck! and congrats on your little one.

pergo flooring(laminate hardwood) is great and not that expensive-best part is that you (if your not to far along) and your husband can do this together in one weekend. You can pretty much go to lowes, home depot or if you have a flooring company in your city sometimes they run awesome specials. Depending on the room size (standard rooms are usually 12x11-12x12) a 12x12 rm is 144 sq.ft. @ $4.00 a sq.ft. your looking at $576.00 that's not bad at all and the resale value will double in time. We have wood and tile thru-out our house and it looks so much better than carpet and it's much easier to take care of. Congrats on being pregant-such a wonderful joy you two are adding to your family. Best of luck and wishes to you.

It's not as horrible as you're imagining.

Get a good quality carpet (preferably with Scotchgard stuff), in a neutral color, and vacuum regularly (using any anti-allergy equipment you feel is necessary).

If you suffer from severe allergies, or your husband does, that may be a different matter. However, most children who grow up in carpeted homes grow up relatively unscathed. :-)

do you have a lot of allergies running in your family, if you vacuum often it won't be a prob. also, children don't vomit as much as you would think, if they do then you really need to see a Dr. you'll be okay, it is cheaper & to make it even more cheaper you could get a remnant...that the left over little bit on the roll. (sometimes a big little bit). wood flooring isn't all it's cracked up to be, you can't wash like norm you need extra special products and tile will prob look weird. good luck!!

We stripped the carpet, and sanded the floorboards, and varnished them, then bought a massive rug, cheaper than a carpet, easier to replace than a carpet, easy to take outside and give a good clean if needed!

we have wood floor in our childs room and i love it! he went through this phase where when he went to bed he'd cry and cry until he made himself throw up all over i would have hated to clean that out of carpet every night for however many weeks it lasted. so no you're not wrong. the dollar store sells peel and stick tile stuff so i'm sure you can afford something other than carpet. good luck i hope everything works out for you.
