The Turkish military has requested permission from Turkey's PM to attack Kurds in Iraq. What will happen if they do?

The fact that the geographical distribution of the Kurds in no way coincides with the national borders of Turkey, Iraq and Iran leaves yet another possible flashpoint, alongside the potential for Iraq splitting into Kurd/Sunni/Shia regions

"Turkey's army chief pushed for a military incursion into northern Iraq on Thursday to crack down on Turkish Kurd rebels...
Ankara fears that Kurdish independence in Iraq could fuel the PKK's separatist campaign in southeast Turkey."

I suppose if they changed the word "rebels" to "terrorists" they should get the green light?

Than we having more problems. Turkey is normally friendly country with US. US is in Iraq and situation at the north Iraq with Kurds is so far good. Now if Turkey attack the Kurds there and I guess US having fight with Turkey. I hope not.
If you ask me: I think all this is so stupid, why are the people not living in peace?

Turkey is a NATO member. So this would be interpreted as NATO attacking Kurds in Iraq.

It 's very unlikely that Turkey would risk expulsion by NATO and economic sanctions if its takes the first initiative unless Kurds are foolish enough to make an excursion into Turkey ' s territory.

In that case, Kurds would be fighting against NATO.
Other NATO members are obliged to defend Turkey.
Not a win win situation.

most americans dont understand a couple of things
- kurds are not the largest distinct minority since each kurd has a different dialect. meaning even though i am part kurdish i cant understand iranian kurds
2-there are many kurds that will fight with the turkish army in north iraq
3-kurds are sunni, shiite or christian
4- there are 40 distinct groups of people in iran, turkey and syria therefore we cant give each a piece of land.
5- international borders were mandated not to change by all countries after the fall of USSR
6- turkey has it in their constitution if kurdistan tries to be independent. most turks are kurdish mixed
7-turkey can help syria and iran to squash this problem
8-this is all the US fault because they are trying to homogenious iraq and divide it so they dont have to deal with anyone other than the kurds. they have paid each kurd 10,000 to move to kirkuk it is sickening. i hate us foreign policy.

America can't do shyt, it already does not have many friends in the 1.8 billion Islamic world, and Turkey is a very very important Islamic nation, trying to get in Turkeys way would be very painful for America as it is a very strong military.

America should control its dogs in the Kurdish north and Turkey would not have to attack Kurds, otherwise it has every right to say 'You are with us, or you are with the Terrorists'.

F**K the USA I say personally.

we are in Iraq to end Terrorists networks from growing to be. It all started while a Terrorist team attacked us. this is going to end while Iraq has sufficient troops knowledgeable to guard them selves. we are sending greater troops over because of the fact they're mandatory to stabilize the area. i've got self belief the conflict is mandatory to end the upward thrust of Terrorism agencies. And George W. Bush did no longer placed this conflict on us. maximum folk of congress and the final public agreed that we mandatory to unfastened the Iraqi human beings from a dictator, a very, very, brutal dictator. i'm hoping this solutions your question.

The Kurds should be defended, they are the only group in Iraq with a working society and common sense, let them run Iraq, or just give them a few nukes to protect themselves with.

Oh, great. At this point maybe just ignore it, and let Turkey take a slice with a little oil and gravy.
