The chlorophyll absorbs red and blue light the best and utilizes it for photosynthesis. It appears as green because green is not absorb by pigments such as chlorophyll but reflects green. Therefore it appears as green to us.

Grass appears green because all of the colors in the rainbow are absorbed into the leaves of the grass except green.

And in fact, if humans could see infrared, grass would be infrared... whatever that looks like.

Chlorophyll would be my guess... that's the "food" that plants live on. Sunlight and water help plants to produce it.
