Why when you are sick - do they tell you to eat chicken soup.
I have been sick since sunday and just ate some and it made me feel terrible!
I wonder if you shouldn't eat it if you have food poisoning
anyone know?

I'm a firm believer in ice cold Gator Ade when I'm sick with the stomach flu and such. It helps stabilize your electrolites and calm the stomach. If you've been vomiting or had the runs, it helps keep you from getting dehydrated. Then, its on to something like toast or crackers. I'm still a fan of chicken soup, though. There's something quite soothing about that warm salty broth, egg noodles, and chicken. Take care!

I have no idea why, but if I am sick or feel that way a dry slice of toast is what I have, this gives the stomach something to work on getting rid of bile, and easing the bloated feeling. bile is usually what helps brake down the food. If you eat something that irritates the stomach then it will throw it back as this is a natural part of the body function. in a similar way if U get diarrhea this happens when the bowl is irritated in a similar way it want''s to get rid of the irritation as soon as it can so your stool becomes watery. If you are sick you must give the stomach time to recover, so eat nothing for at least two hours after you have been sick. hope this helps and explains a little.

When chicken soup is homemade from scratch it can aid in recovering from colds and flus. The reason is that calcium from the bones in the chicken is cooked into the broth as well as other nutrients.

Onions, celery and carrots are cooked in the broth as well adding to the nutritional value of the soup.

Store bought soups are overcooked and contain minimal nutrition.

I would be very careful when eating soup while you're sick. You want to check the sodium levels of some of them. Some of Campbell's Chunky soup has over 1,000 mg of salt, and that will make you feel even worse.

it might better if you just try chicken broth and some saltines. the reason they tell you to eat it is because it is easier on your stomach and you won't become dehydrated. hope you feel better.
