I have a large tattoo on my back and it hurt like hell, but it started out small. The first one I got was my daughters name and then my mom passed away so I got her name too! Then a good friend of mine who also happened to be my sister-in-law passed away so I got her name done on my back also adn had them all connected by smoke and the smoke comes out of a genie bottle. Now I have my back entirely done as a "In memory of" type of thing and I don't regret it one bit. It is like carring all my loved ones with me no matter where I go.

I don't recommend branding yourself with a man's name though. You never know what will happen in the future.

I have 18 tattoos. Each one I have is something that reflex me and that time of my life, and I have a tattoo for each of my kids. I am very happy with the tattoos I have. As far as pain goes every body has a different pain tolerance.. I have a friend that actually goes to sleep when given a tat.. I personally can do good for a small amount of time before the pain is to much. I use a numbing cream from the tattoo suppler that helps alot. The worst one that hurt for me was the one on my shoulder and I notice the older you get it hurts alittle worse then when I got my first on at 19..hehehe Just make sure the one you want is the one your happy with before putting it on your body. Have fun and watch out once you get one it leads to another!

I have a very small tattoo behind my right ear on my neck. I thought about it alot before getting it done. I do not regret it and am actually getting another one done in a few weeks. Just make sure you get something you want for the rest of your life and you will not regret it. :) Oh and tattoos are addicting.

I have one on my lower back. I never regret it and I am very happy with it. Don't let anyone kid you - it hurts. The outlines, not so much, but the coloring in hurts.

Make sure you really like the symbol and that it means something to you forever, not a phase type thing. Mine is a celtic symbol, as I'm Irish, so I don't regret it. Also, make sure you go to a reputable tattoo artist. If done right, the color won't fade and it will heal fast.

I have four tattoos. The smallest one is a little bigger than a silver dollar. The largest one you could not cover up with both hands at the same time. Never regretted getting any of them and will probably get another. I have a special one that I am creating in my mind. When you get them yes you feel it. It is not PAIN like getting shots, just aggervating at times and at other times you can just tell there is something on you. If it was real painful you would never see anyone with more than one.

I still love my tattoo (but ok, it has been less than a year lol) As long as you have put a lot of thought into it, you probably won't regret it.
As for the pain, yes, it does hurt a bit. It does depend on your pain tolerance. But think about this - if the pain was so unbearable, why would so many people have one? And have gone back a second, third, tenth time!? You can do it!

I have a tat on my lower back. It took about 3 hours and yeah, it hurt but it wasn't horrible. Just kind of a persistant burning pain. My mistake was not eating beforehand, so I got really lightheaded and we had to stop while and I went and got lunch.
No, I absolutely don't regret it. Even though its not something that I'm in love with now, its a good memory of who I was at the time. In fact, I am thinking about getting a new one soon.
Note: Look at the tattoo artists portfolio beforehand. Make sure you like the way he draws his designs. Remember, you have to have this on your body for life, so when he makes the drawing in marker on your body (or traces the stencil) corrected it if you want. And if you don't like how it looks, don't commit to it. Its OK to leave the shop or ask to think about it.
Good luck!

I have a small one. It's only 2" big (my friend measured it) & nope I don't regret it at all. It's a rose because my name is Rose. I made a rule for myself....I will only get tattoos that have meaning so that I won't regret them when I'm like 75 for example & I will only put them in places where I can cover them up. My job doesn't allow tats to be visible.

As for your question about the pain, it all depends on two things: placement & your level of pain tolerance. When I got mine, I had wanted to put it on my shoulderblade (easy cover-up spot) but that's a bone & I'm a baby when it comes to pain. I had it moved over & put on the muscle in between my shoulderblade & spine. It didn't hurt at all for me....just felt like I was having a slight cramp in my muscle for a lil while.

You seem very non-committal. If you have to ask such questions, you are probably not ready to get one. If you think you're going to regret it, don't get it. It's as simple as that. Other people's opinions on how they feel about theirs shouldn't affect your decision. A tattoo is forever, remember that.

FYI: "very small" tattoos often look out of place and crappy due to lack of detail. IMHO if you are afraid to get a larger tattoo that will actually look good, don't get one at all. Just my opinion, do what you want.

there are three kinds of people.
1. people who get one tattoo and never get anymore,
2. people who get one tattoo and continue getting tattoos, or
3. people who never get tattoos.
i have one tattoo on my lower back, i don't regret it b/c i got something that represented that time, yet won't go out of style. when i got it, it did hurt, the first needle mark the artist made, i guess i forgot to breath, and he noticed so he stopped and told me to breath, then i realized i was holding my breath. haha funny, but i'm very satisfied, and i'm actually looking at getting one more, just one more, anymore would be too much. well, it hurts of course. what i can compare it to is getting a really rough carpet burn. on the bone hurts the most though..just make sure to find a good artist, well known or at least popular, cleanliness, b/c you don't want to get anything from these needles...and you may certainly want to ask to see previous work done, or just ask you friends or ppls you know who have tattoos where they got it from and which places are good. tattoo parlors do have reputations. it's very easy to find out. good luck.
