There are a few 'fast' chargers for sale that can do it in about 1 hour, but they are a lot more expensive than the normal chargers. Fast charging of NiCads is not recommended and can be dangerous (without a really good 'fast' charger).

Stick with 'normal' chargers. They will do the job without risk of damaging the batteries in 8 - 10 hours (overnight).

If you are finding that your batteries are not holding a charge -- even after 12 hours of charging (on a normal charger), then the batteries have developed a "memory" and either need to be refurbished (on a special charger) or replaced.

I always replace my NiCads when they start to get a memory.

To avoid a "memory" in a NiCad, always use the WHOLE charge on the battery (until it is almost dead) before you re-charge it. When you replace them swtich to the newer NiMH type batteries. They don't have memory problems like NiCads do.
