No way! You're just a babe! You can learn the piano at ANY age. I played violin and flute in school, but my desire was to always learn the piano. My grandmother taught piano - but we lived all over the place, so I never took lessons. We never had a piano growing up, so I was thrilled when I was finally able to get a piano ($20 from someone who didn't want it anymore!) I bought the beginner books and taught myself, consulting with those who played and/or taught if I had a question. The hardest part for me was learning the Bass clef/left hand. If I had the time and money I'd take lessons - but for now I'm content playing on an intermediate level. So, it's never too late to learn ANYTHING! Good luck ~ and enjoy!

I'm curious why people think if they didn't take lessons as a child that it might be too late. It doesn't make sense to me. The only reason people have their kids take lessons very young is they have hopes the kids will be a prodigy which is incredibly rare. Most kids end up hating their lessons and quit as soon as they can. I think as a 21 yr old you will have no problem learning and will appreciate it much more than kids do. I've been teaching piano for 30 years and I love having more mature students.

Never too late even for an old gal like yourself. I didn't start learning any Spanish until I was in my 40's. Heck don't wait, start now. You'll be sorry if you don't. Seems like I just barely learned to be potty trained and now I can see adult depends on the horizon. You should never wait for good things. I waited for 4 years before my wife and I had any kids ( mostly because I didn't think she was that kind of girl)( found out she was:)

Basically, if you have the desire to play a piano, fingers, a piano (or keyboard), AND...."D-I-S-C-I-P-L-I-N-E".....and an inspirational, motivating teacher...you Certainly can learn to play the piano. "Where there's Life, there's Hope!"
It's an incredibly rewarding experience and adds VOICE to some things that are otherwise inexpressible....Music that you create, SPEAKS....it tells what you can't verbalize....it exposes, reveals, hides, conceals.....it can be incredibly Gratifying!.....[ I started playing at 4 years old and over the years, have studied composition, taught harmonics, studied jazz ] It's a LIFE LONG gift that keeps on giving..as the Lion requested of the Wizard: COURAGE!

As a music teacher, I can tell you that you are never too old to begin to play an instrument. I have a private student that is learning to play that is 72 years old. You just have to be able to put the time in to practice and focus on learning.

I took up the drums at 45, after playing guitar and bass most of my life. Also took up the keyboards at around 35. I'm still learning everytime new technology comes around. You are never too old to learn, unless you convince yourself that you are!

since it's not a physical skill (eg. dancing, gymnastics, etc.), it's not too late. you know James Galway? he didn't play the flute his entire life, but look at him now! his music is a big deal.
