There is a local preacher who advertises his church here regularly. He always ends his commericals with the phrase, "If I can't show it to you in the Bible, then you have no obligation to believe it".

Is there any question that cannot be answered within the Bible?

Yes:
Why is it that we all have the same God, but can't get along?

True enough. There are a few people that leave quotes that I skip right over, but we're not ALL doing that. On the other hand, answers to a question about Christianity should come from the Bible since it's our source on spiritual matters and world view.

I think one of the reasons for the success of Christianity, is that the Bible is so vague, ambiguous and contradictory, that you can find a scripture that appears to support any position or policy you choose. The Bible can't answer all kinds of specific factual questions, like what is the value of "pi"(actually, it attempted, but got it wrong. Funny that God didn't know the value of pi)

So I suspect there's some truth in what that preacher says...he probably CAN come up with a biblical answer to almost any question. If you don't mind both question and answer to be pretty vague and useless.

It doesn't mean the answer is correct, however.

The way you posed the statement of the preacher shows me that he didn't mean it that way.

He didn't say, " Everything is answered in the Bible."

He said that there is no obligation to believe whatever is not in the Bible.

At least, that's what I see.

Sure there are questions that cannot be answered by the scriptures. But what you need to remember is that if something is not addressed in the scriptures it likely does not matter much to God, at least not at this point in time. He supplied everything we need to know to live for Him. There are all sorts of things I want to ask Him about though.

The BIBLE is Not an Answer book, and YET there are ALL THE PRINCIPLES of Life Contained THEREIN!

(Matthew 4:4) But He [Jesus] answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Thanks, RR

Sure... what are the breeding habits of the south american dart frog? Lots of practical questions like that.

However, the fundamental questions (such as where that dart frog came from and how did it start breeding?) are answered.

It's all relative. There are tons of individual examples. "What have I got in my pocket?" "What's the name of that woman actor on Seinfeld with the annoying laugh?" "Who's going to win American Idol?" "Does Sanjaya really have fans?"

But the *important* questions - Who am I? Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going? are all answered.

**EDIT**
To the person asking below: "
why there are kind but poor,
naughty but rich people in this word.
God cannot make fair?"

The bible answers that. Jesus did an entire sermon about rich men and indicates that financial wealth while on this earth is irrelevant. Sure, it makes it easy when we're here, but it's not the fundamental. The bible doesn't teach Karma, it teaches faith.

No! and that's what separates it from any other religious book ever written. It grows to apply to life at every stage of every culture, and its truths are undeniable. That is proof that it was written by the One True Living God, penned through His followers for everyone! Amazing, right? I know!

Must be a great comfort to have the answers to everything contained in one book, and no matter how many versions or how many times it's been edited or revised, that it still contains all the right answers.

With such a book you could get pretty lazy with the brain that God gave you!

only the questions that god can't answer for you and that you have to figure out yourself.
Don't listen to him because some things are meant for us to teach ourselves and he has no right saying if the bible can't teach us everything then we have no right to learn it.
God never said he answered perfect or made his world out to be perfect.

Yes, "Am I a believer?"

The Bible is a gift from God.
