I believe in God and say thanks to him for stuff, but I don't go to church and I don't give a tithe.

God has never told me a way in which to worship him. I only get told this by other humans.

And from my own pitiful knowledge of the Bible, didn't Jesus tell us not to go to Churches and Temples, but to worship him in our hearts?

2007-04-12 05:24:15 · update #3

The only experience I have had of Churches and Christian "groups" is people trying to brainwash me.

2007-04-12 05:26:03 · update #4

And on a final note... the Bible wasn't written by God, it was written by humans, so there is no way I would go to Bible study groups in order to try and be closer to God; that would be a waste of time.

God wants you to worship in Spirit and truth. Dont make up God as you go deciding on your own what is right and what is a sin. God has given us His Word to look to. Jesus made things simple saying that there are 2 commandments that all the commandments and all that the prophets have spoken about...... Here is a paraphrase of the 2.... LOVE GOD and LOVE ONE ANOTHER. (Matthew 22:36-40)
By the way, the people who wrote the bible had the Spirit of God guiding them. The Spirit is God. If you read about the 10 commandments written by Gods hand ,you would notice that no one could touch it without dying. The scriptures written are God breathed. The scriptures will never fade away even after you die and every generation after you. Gods commandments are not hard to keep, especially we in the New Testament.
God has made us to live together on this earth, not to be islands alone. We need to fellowship and love one another, none of us is perfect. Have some faith and if you need prayer or anything please feel free to email me. God bless you.

I am very much a Christian, but I don't go to church either. I went to a youth group for a couple years, but don't anymore.

I still pray often & talk to God & keep Him in my life, just without going to a congregation. As long as you keep a close relationship with God & allow Him to be a part of everyday for you, I think you should worship in whatever way you feel most comfortable. But continue looking for a church you feel comfortable with...it can help you get thru life's obstacles!

No, I believe you can worship God in whatever way you feel comfortable in. Going to Church, Christian groups and the such really helps you grow spiritually, but it's your own choice. I think you should know the word of the Lord well if you are to explain it, and Church helps you learn it and grow with it. No-one can force you to do anything - its free country, and you can express your love to God in whatever way you see fit! =)

Let me give you an illustration! Growing up my parents took me to church when the doors where open and gave a tithe. We were poor and had no money, but God all ways supplied so we never had to worry and it was because we gave tithes. God said you don't have to but it's right and he also said that if you are Born again that you need to be baptized if you haven't excepted Christ as your savior or gotten baptized then don't bother.

The bible says to worship in spirit and in truth, and also "don't forsake the assembling of yourselves"

there is more strength in 2's and 3's than in 1. If u believe in God and want to worship him then u need to worship with other people who u can encourage and in turn they encourage u.

There are laws for everything in this world:

If you are summoned to court would u go with slippers and sleevless shirt? there are rules of the court, and penalities for disobeying the laws.

would u run a red light in traffic? would u not register your newborn? These are questions u need to ask yourself, and then u will know that u cannot worship God how YOU want, but how GOD says to do it - according to his law "in spirit and in truth"

The best way to pray and worship is to do it as if you were saying it to a loving parent. Talk to him as you would your father. Make it a gift from you heart. There is no right way. However, Jesus gave us a format to help us get started. It is called The Lord's Prayer, and was intended as a way to help people approach God in prayer. Use it if you want to, but talking straight from your heart is best.

Yes.

I don't go to church and I feel that I'm more spiritual than religious. I feel the key is to practice Loving God, Loving Others and Loving Yourself each day.

I claim the privilege of worshipping Almighty God according to the dictates of my own conscience, and allow all men (and women) the same privilege. Let them worship how, where, or what they may.
