I sure wish there was a cure for hives because I would certainly take it. I have lived with them for most of 7 years and take a cocktail of anti-histamines to manage them, but almost daily have some on my body somewhere. Most doctors use steroids (which didn't work for me), anti-rejection medication or anti-malarials (which control them for me) and combinations of anti-histamines to treat hives. Oatmeal is my friend because it at least takes the itching away.

Antihistamines are good for hives that are related to allergies, but you should make sure that is what you truly have first. The other thing is to find out what has caused them. If you are allergic to a specific food or maybe a perfume, it would not do you much good to treat the hives without eliminating the cause. Web MD is also a great web site for health information.

hives usually repond pretty well to benadryl, if you are sure they are hives then take that. They could also be shingles, the two are similar, in which case you need prescriptive medications, see a doctor.
