"When 40 years of age, Joseph married a woman called Melcha or Escha by some, Salome by others; they lived forty-nine years together and had six children, two daughters and four sons, the youngest of whom was James (the Less, "the Lord's brother"). A year after his wife's death, as the priests announced through Judea that they wished to find in the tribe of Juda a respectable man to espouse Mary, then twelve to fourteen years of age, Joseph, who was at the time ninety years old, went up to Jerusalem among the candidates; a miracle manifested the choice God had made of Joseph, and two years later the Annunciation took place."
The Catholic Encyclopaedia goes on to conclude "...retained the belief that St. Joseph was an old man at the time of marriage with the Mother of God." If there is no problem in a 90 year old man marrying the "Mother of God" who was 12-14 years old why do you raise objection towards the marriage of Aisha (RA) to the Prophet?

Salam bro

You just hit the nail on the head...

Though i think Aisha was 9... but in those times it was normal for people to marry women at that age... because of their maturity... everyone did it...

even 50 years ago people used to do it... probably in some countries it still happens, it's culture...

It is only in recent times and in nowaday society that this has been considered a gross act. Marriage to young girls was very common in prophetic times and that is to do with culture, not religion. There was not a difference between a 9 year old and a 12 year old in those times and a 9 year old would have been considered a woman since puberty can begin at the age of 8 in females. The prophet Muhammad may have married Aisha but it is a fact that they did not have a sexual relationship. He loved all his wives equally and treated them all with respect.

I am a Muslim and have qualms with this marriage back in the day. If it where a modern day marriage it would be taboo.

But sadly the Prophet did play by different rules as I am not opposed to her age because in ancient times that stuff happens but due to the fact that Aaisha is the daughter of Abu Bakr and Abu Bakr is the brother of the Prophet.

Prophet or no Prophet I would be troubled to marry my daughter off to my brother and enraged at even the thought off it but they made their own rules

Yes i saw lots of Christian's posts abt that marriage. I know they are Chrisitans because they end their post by saying abt Jesus. Well, I was angry when I read those posts, but what I did was put that name as my contact and face them with argument or discussion. Then I think, Al Qur'an already mentione that they will always find something to redicule our prophet anyway, just leave them alone, means surrended to our Allah SWT to do what's necessary and I seek for His strength. They forget that we have plenty things to redicule them, but as we were told not to, so we don't. Lots of Christians are hypocrates for sure when you read their answers here, they keep saying that ther religion is a 'love' religion, but their posts are full with hatreds. It's a failure religion when it come to "love" ; imagine on Sundays the conversations in the family before going to and after out from church, most of it are just what we call "riya". I suggest, read Al Falaq 1,2 . Hope we are saved from their harms. Sallallahu ala sayidina Muhammad wa ala alihi wa syahbihi ajmain.

Salam mu alaikkum sister. Just to inform all of you the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) did not marry Aisha (ra) in the age of 6 or anything OKAY! Abu backar the father of Aisha(ra) was the closest friend of the prophet Muhammed and gave him the prophet Muhammed (pbuh) the permission to marry his daughter when Aysha(ra) was 6 years old. And at the age of 9 Aysha (ra) was ENGAGED to the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh). And obviously the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) did not have any type of physical relationship with Aysha(ra) untill her age of puberty.

I personally do not object the marriage of those two couples as back in those days marriage between two individuals who had a big age gap was considered normal. However now, as in the west it isn't considered normal, people tend to forget that those marriages happened 2000 years ago so they are quick to criticise as they are living in modern time.

All Christians do not go by the Catholic Encyclopedia, therefore you would need to give us Biblical scriptures.
I will also say, that Joseph is not to Christians what Muhammed is to Muslims.

No Christian can answer this question. There are 100s of porn verses in the Bible and yet they follow it as word of God. When hadiths say that he was a true prophet, nobody believes it. When hadiths say that he married Hazrat Aisha (phuh) when she was 9, they immediately pound on him with allegations. They have been brainwashed into it.
