Hello. My doctor told me to try taking a tsp of apple cider vinegar before meals to help suppress my appetite and lose weight. Has anyone else done this? Does it help? How do you get over that taste?

vinegar as an appetite suppressant? not so effective for most.

the main purpose of adding vinegar to the diet is to lower the glycemic effect of a high carbohydrate meal. by lowering the glycemic effect or the rate at which blood sugar rises after a meal is that it reduces the amount of insulin that is secreted. by reducing the amount of insulin that is secreted the potential for fat storage is decreased. elevated insulin levels also stop the fat burning process. keeping insulin levels low and stable over the course of the day helps to keep the fat burning steady and to keep from overeating.

1 tablespoon after a high carb meal is all that's needed

It definitely stops you eating late at night. Because if you take it undiluted, it tastes absolutely foul! It's much stronger than malt vinegar so be careful if your stomach is sensitive. There must be some truth to vinegar aiding weight loss. The poet Lord Byron used to eat potatoes drenched in vinegar as a way to lose weight.

i did this for a long time and it dose work. The best way to take it is to mix 1 tsp in a 8oz glass of water before each meal. this help with the taste a little you never want to take it straight yuck!!! if you don't like it in plan water you can also try it in tea. remember buy unpasteurized apple cider vinegar to get the full effect.

if you are worrying about the acidity and it bothering your stomach you can make an infusion of apple cider vinegar with mint leaves. it might help with the taste and vinegar and mint is a known stomachache remedy

I have tried this. It's supposed to also help clear your body of toxins. Some people take 2 T a day in a large glass of water...you're still getting the ACV in one dose but it's not so strong.

That said, I took it daily for 2 years (hoping it would help with my skin) and when I stopped doing it, I showed no "gain" in weight and I had not lost weight due to taking it for another purpose.

It *is* gross/ strong so maybe that puts off your appetite but it's not like it does anything more than gross you out. Sorry! No easy-peasy on that one. Wish it worked : )

I hate be be the bearer of bad news, but this really does not work at all. I agree with the heartburn. The best tip I have is drink Ice cold water, because you burn calories as your body tries to heat it in your body, also, eat until you are pleasantly full( 80% full)either get up and leave the table or push your food out of the way. push your chair back too. let your food sit for 20 minutes, and the hunger should kinda be forgotten about. I cannot tell you how much that works, I do that and I tend to forget I am still hungry, because you really aren't hungry your just use to feeling so full before you stop eating. well, good luck.
