Write them a letter and send it certified asking them to remove your phone number from the account. Tell them if they do not, you will report them for FDCPA violations.

Next time they call before they say anything request the name and address of the collection agency are working for, they must provided this information
then send a certified letter stating that you have the wrong person, and all further communication about this subject must be in writing only
after they have received the letter if they call you again call your state AG office and file a complaint

I have had this problem before regarding my uncle.....
after a 3 phone a day tops it is harrasement and after that start "leaving messages for this person and get NAME, NUMBER and EXTENTION, along with CITY AND STATE so you can report that this agency is harrasing you.
if that doesnt work try this.......
tell them to stop calling you and if they persist on calling you tell them that the next day that these people wont have a job and will be waiting in the unemployment line because the business they are working is conducting illegal activity. that works wonders. i havent had a call since then and its been about 2 yrs.

I have the same problem. Whoever lived in the home I'm renting before me did not pay a lot of bills. I get all her calls. I tell them, "Jane Doe does not live her, it is a rental property. Stop calling." If they continue to call, I tell them if they don't remove my phone number promptly, I'm going to report them to the FCC and State Attorney Generals office for harassment. They usually stop calling. If they still continue, I follow through.

You can make a Police report for harassing phone calls. I would also contact a supervisor at the phone company. Some newspapers have a column specifically designed to help people like yourself in these particular situations.

Next time they call, tell them that you are the one they are looking for an you finally have the money, but it's cash and you don't feel comfortable mailing it. Ask them to come pick it up, and brutally murder whoever they send for the cash. Repeat this same procedure until they stop sending people or the police put you into a place with no phones.

The same thing has been happening to me-- it was driving me nuts. I guess they finally figured they had the wrong number, cause it stopped.
I guess you just wait it out or change your phone number.
By the way, I do not think that collection agencies fall under the TELEMARKETER category because they are NOT trying to sell anything.
So the "Do Not Call List" thing doesn't apply to them.

You have the right to fire a third party collections agency....
When they call you again, tell them you wish they not call you any more, tell them you are firing their services and if they continue to contact you, you will file a harrasment charge against them/company.
Be sure to get the company's name and person calling you prior to saying this.
Good luck

Next time tell them that this is not whomevers number and that any further phone calls constitute harassment, note the time and date of the conversation and who you spoke to. After that note the date and time of the call and contact the police.

I work at adebt collection firm..you have to send a letter in writing demanding that they not call your home/work. Also, it may be helpful to send a copy of your driver's license to prove you are not that person. Good luck!

Tell them one time, and one time only that the person they are looking for is NOT there, and after that, just hang up on them.If this does NOT remedy the proble, get a new phone number which is unlisted.
