Rice is right. Try looking at my page and going to my question about Wiccan/pagan mentors. It might help you some. And don't worry about the Bible-thumpers:) And anyone can do a spell...there's just no guarantee that it will work.

(Sigh)
If you mean neo-wiccan/McWicca (shudder), that's just a matter of picking up a book, or reading some information on a web site, and declaring that you're wiccan. This form of wicca is for the kind of folks who like to say that they don't need someone telling them what to do, kind of like someone who thinks that because they have read a book on flying a plane, they are a pilot.

Wicca, the way it was intended, is not taught to anyone who is not in a position to run their own life, generally 18+. Wicca was/is intended to be an initiatory clergy, a priesthood, thus it is not something you can learn on your own, other than maybe the outer court stuff that goes into the books.

Paganism is something you can do on your own, it is a self declaration to follow the less trodden paths to the Divine.

Witchcraft is something you can do on your own as well, however you are now delving into areas where it's better to have someone with some experience who can show you what you are or are not doing right.

I know I'll more than likely get thumbs down from some people, that's fine. Am I trying to be dismissive? No. I have been in Wicca for over 20 years and like anyone who takes pride in their calling, I would prefer that people have enough respect for what people had to go through to get Wicca accepted to not turn it into just another New Age Fad that they will put off when they get bored of it.

Wicca is a life path, and a way to be of service to people and to the planet.

First off, just know that wicca is not a game. It's not some toy to play around with like one would with a Ouija board. You CAN make things happen and you could hurt another or yourself. If you are truly interested for the spiritual reasons, and not for popularity, I would suggest you read anything and everything you can get your hands on. Look for anyone in your area who is willing to teach you (but be careful, some may come off as an innocent teacher wanting to teach but then will turn). Or even a circle or coven. Ask them if you can observe and possibly join to learn further. But I would strongly advise you seriously think about this. As I said it's not a game or toy. It can be dangerous, despite the beliefs of others. I am just looking out for your safety and anyone else's who may also be looking into this. It's wonderful, but serious work.

Good Luck

Tessa, enable me to reply the final query first. Yes, Wicca IS truly. Wicca is a Religion and as such, we supply honor to BOTH a Goddess and a God (despite the fact that there are exceptions to that (Dianic Wicca, being one)). We additionally recognize the Divine as being take place within the Natural global round us, which variety of offers non-Wiccans the influence that we worship Nature. It isn't Nature that we worship it's the Divine, and nature is most effective the conduit by way of which we accomplish that. Wicca don't worship idols, we worship in entrance of statues (once more there are lots of exceptions to this as good (Green Witches come to brain)). Christians don't worship the go, they worship what the go represents, it's accurately that identical precept in Wicca. We behavior our ceremonies throughout the whole moon (a few additionally the brand new moon), and 8 Sabbats which can be unfold out over the yr (What many Wicca name the Wheel of the Year). These celebrations re-reside exact levels within the existence a while of the Gods and Goddesses and are performed in commemoration of those Divine parties. The Wicca admire the life of well and evil as inherent is ALL matters, the whole thing and all people has the ability for BOTH (Even the Divine). Evil for that reason, is an essential facet of the whole thing and one can't have one with out the opposite. The key to that is steadiness, Wicca keep the inspiration of steadiness to be one of the vital middle ideas of the universe and al which exists. So, to reply your first query, there may be NO being that's absolutely well or absolutely evil, most effective the cause of the character determines whether or not a factor or an movement is for well or evil. Therefore, as there may be NO being assigned the character of whole evil (ie, a satan) it's not possible for us to worship the sort of being. NOw, as many member of Judeo-Christian-Islamic Faiths are so keen on mentioning in unequivocal phrases, "if you don't worship the god of sunshine and love, then you're worshiping the satan". They fail to notice that with a purpose to worship some thing or any one, then worship MUST be the cause. There isn't any such factor as unknowingly worshiping any one. We can NOT worship a inspiration which does NOT exist to us, for that reason we do NOT worship the "Devil", because the "Devil" is NOT one of the vital Divine being principles which exists inside the Faith procedure of Wicca. It is as functional and direct as that. Does this make feel to you? Brightest Blessings, Raji the Green Witch

Gods no, don't start with Silver Ravenwolf. Ugh. Pretty covers do not mean that there's substance inside.

Buckland would be my recommendation. Starhawk for a feminist touch. Adler. Cunningham if you want to venture a little farther afield.

Read, read, and then read some more. See if it is the right path for you. It may not be. But read and understand before "making the leap" and labeling yourself.

my son is 14 and wiccan. it's a very peaceful path. just a word of warning, if you find a coven and want to join, and someone tells you that you have to do something sexually to be a part of it, stay clear, they're not really wiccan! there are sick people claiming to be all sorts of religions, wicca is not exempt.

edit: Vanoura, thank you, i forgot about spiral scouts! it's a pagan version of boy/girl scout. i actually plan to start a chapter here in ontario in the fall!

to Gwiz105 - if you've ever prayed, you've done a spell!

14 is a very young age to decide to become any specific religion.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's great you are coming to this choice on your own.. but I think it needs to be well thought out.. without confusion : )

At your age I would caution you about looking for fellow Wiccans (or any other religion for that matter) online.

I would read books... keep a journal of your thoughts and questions.
Visit witchvox.com

You may even find people your own age by going to www.spiralscouts.com

Good luck and be safe!

Blessings!

I'm not a Wiccan, but I've read a great deal on the subject. If there aren't any covens or other Wiccans in your area, perhaps you should look into becoming a solitary practitioner. There are many books that can help you here. One that I recommend is "To Ride a Silver Broomstick" by Silver RavenWolf.

There are some sites online to read about Wicca. There are also a lot of books, I would stay away from Silver Ravenwolf, she is a good writer but her interpretation of Wicca is a little strange. There is also Witchvox where you can meet other pagans. You should be sure to have your parents consent, some states have laws against teaching children religion without their parents consent (South Dakota is one of them).
