Ok. I have a 2003 Dodge quad cab with a long bed. Its a 2500 Heavy Duty with the 5.7 Hemi in it. About 2 months ago I went and had the stock muffler removed and had a 40 series flowmaster put on it. Instead of having them put the tail pipe back I just had them dump it. I took it to jiffy lube to get the oil changed and I asked the guy if it would pass inspection and he said no because you have to have a tail pipe. Is that true?? I thought as long as it didn't emit too much pollution it would pass. Everything else is the same. It still has the cat they welded the flowmaster on there really good. They used the stock hangers so its not going anywhere. Why would it matter if its going out the back or not??? Thanks

Oklahoma no longer has a vehicle inspection program. However, the problem posed has nothing to do with noise or emissions as pertaining to EPA. The law in OK is you have to have a tailpipe the exits from under the vehicle. The fumes from the exhaust could wind up in your vehicle and damage you severely if they cannot get out from under the vehicle. You will have to check in your state to see if this is the case.

We don't have emissions testing here, but I know changing ur muffler or pipes does not effect emissions. Your Catalytic Converter uses platinum or rhodium to burn up the remaining polluting emissions. As for being required by law to have a pipe that exits towards the back.......that seems silly but I dont know.

No offense, yet thats like asking if its okay to placed racing stripes and NOS on a seventy 9 Mustang 4 banger, 4 velocity, stick shift. (trust me, they exist) you don't want a twin exhaust sytem on that. If its all about seems for you, overlook it, or purchase a truck that comes inventory twin exhaust, yet your gonna lose that extra acceptable gasoline economic device you've at the same time with your truck.

depends on how anal the inspector is. in most states, obd2 vehicles have a visual inspection and a scan tool check, they do not do a sniffer test. it may be different in your area. flowmasters can be installed thru mopar at you dealer so they shouldn't screw you on that, hopefully

Each state inspection is different, you would be better off calling your states dept of transportation or looking at there website and see if they have any information.
