Wow, those were some crap answers... Don't buy any additives, don't buy any oil treatments and don't buy any injector cleaner - Your car is too old and tired for all that.
If it goes away under acceleration (under load), you're most likely hearing rod knock, which means you have some serious internal problems in the bottom end.
You have 2 choices at this point: Drive it until it dies (which can be tomorrow or many miles down the road), or rebuild / swap now.
Your car, fortunately, is easy to find parts for, and here's a bunch of help - http://www.MaximaClub.org .
You MAY even find that someone on the above link that is local to you and would do the swap for you for less than the dealer will charge.

you do no longer point out however if the catalytic converter develop into replaced, as that should be the exhaust scent. you do no longer point out however if the transmission is automatic or instruction manual, as a take carry of difficulty ought to describe the 2nd kit difficulty or if that's an automated, an inner pump or a torque converter difficulty. Oil tension ought to variety some by fact the engine revs, by fact the oil pump is administered by the engine, and it pumps harder at bigger rpms. start up with the inexpensive and artwork your way up. First, have the EGR valve replaced, alongside with the oxygen sensor. Your steel/tapping noise may well be coming from the transmission, yet whilst no longer, you probable should not be utilising it until eventually you hit upon out for particular. Did you get a examine engine easy? if so did you run the codes to make certain what it meant (places like AutoZone or strengthen vehicle areas will examine it for unfastened).

It may be many things. Oil, Rod and also, it may be a Water Pump or something. IF, you use good safely you can raise the hood and listen. Take a piece of pipe or very long screw driver and put it against different areas and listen to the other end, believe me you will hear it. Just be careful around the moving parts and belt. IF, it a rod, you can remove the oil fill cap and just listen to the hole, if, you can get your ear down there, you will know, it be louder. Just be careful and watch your hair and clothes. Have someone to turn the car off if you start screeming. LOL!

It could just be trash in the engine block. The first thing to do is to go to an auto store and run fuel injector cleaner through the car. All you do is buy it and put it in the gas tank. If that doesnt solve the problem after a day or so take it straight to an automotive technician because it could end up cracking a cylinder which could result in a new engine.
