Both times I went to the UK everyone loved my accent. They would order me to say something just to hear it. Conversations typically went like this:
Me: "Hi there, how are you?"
Guy: "Hey, are you American?"
Me: "Umm...yeah" (I'd get nervous because it sounded a bit like they were going to tell me how much they hate Americans and such)
Guy: "Brilliant! Say something!"
Me: "Like what?"
Guy: "Yeah, that's great! Say something else!"
It was kind of weird and sometimes annoying but most of the time it was funny how excited they were to listen to me talk. They seemed to like it even more when you attempted to speak in their accent. Mostly because I would sound like an idiot but it got everyone laughing and broke the ice.
So go for it and if you come across a guy who says he doesn't like your accent then drop him because he doesn't know what is good for him ;-)

I'm not a guy, but I am from the UK, and I find that sort of American twang to be THE most annoying accent ever. Other American accents I can cope with.
I don't know where madqueenmadb went to, but that is certainly not typical. Frankly, we have too much American import TV for it to be a novelty.
Americans and Australians seem to love the British accent. I read an article on it and apparently the British accent gets associated with being clever.

In general I like the accents but I'm not keen on the loud, brash types and the 'Texan drawl'. A friend of mine from Charlotte NC has one of the nicest accents I've heard. There was a lady in NYC that I spoke to many times on the phone and I loved talking to her because she had such a nice accent. Another friend, originally from NYC but now in CA also has a really nice accent, maybe I've got a thing for New York accents.

When I lived in England it always seemed either off or on. I would say 40% like it, 20% hostile, 40% non-plussed.
Of course, the more time you spend there makes you come back to America sounding some type of weirdo with american accent and british dialect.

Accents, like dialects (two different things) vary a lot in both America and Britain. Even in Scotland there are different dialects although the accent is much in general. Australia has only one. England is a mixture from interesting to prat. I like the New York dialect and the southern drawl. Can't stand that nasal twang that sounds like an overtight ********.

yet another accessory question. :) In my travels to Europe specifically, i found that my American accessory attracted interest, and it develop into frequently advantageous. it rather is maximum probable by fact my accessory well-liked me from the locals. I even have purely been to 3 cities in the U.ok., yet I spent the longest time in London. i develop into stunned that my accessory attracted as lots interest because it did in London (frequently male interest), yet returned, there may well be a protracted record of reasons for it. final analysis: if a guy famous you appealing, accessory probable won't count yet ought to be an extra bonus for him.

Personally, not particularly, but it's all taste in't it.
I think it's something to do with the way the 'r's are pronounced.
