I have always wondered about things like this
about people who steal to feed a family etc
is this really wrong ?

in response to the article ... it is lovely to think that people do these things for others even when it doesn't benefit them self

just strange to think of cheating in a positive light

This should be called the "social justice and tzedakah (charity) impulse." These are two of the major tenants of Judaism.

'Human nature,' without doubt. AKA Instinct.

We like to normalise others. We tell them to cheer up, or calm down. Extremes make us uncomfortable because they're less predictable, which is scary.

I think it is born of our need to be social creatures and our compssion for each other. "We all get further when we go together" mentality. It helps us as we are biologically naked, slow and tasty but together we are a force great enough to cause ecological damage.
