answer to any question be it retoricle ,metaphorical, or even a cry for help is to quote the bible at them.
i am a pagan but i do not see the need to impress my beliefs on people when they talk to me or ask my advise as i do not believe that religios brow beating is the solution to say ' how can i escape from drugs or alchohol' or 'my parents are sexually abusing me, beating me, help'

Because some faiths believe that everyone must be converted. As pagans, we have been ridiculed so it is in our nature to be quiet regarding our beliefs. We are satisfied in our faith and don't feel the need to push everyone to our way of thinking. We just want people to understand that we are not devil worshippers, just earth worshippers. To people who say all of the answers are in the Bible, why has it been changed each time it has been translated or revised?

Some Christians are too brainwashed to think for themselves. They had this weird idea everything they need to know and every answer for the world's is in the book they call the bible.
They would most probably quote the bible for any question. Possibly when I asked "Which command cause the computer to hang", the answer might be from the bible too.
However, what they do not realise is they cannot understand the bible at all. Because if they do, they will leave the church. They are afraid to ask questions regarding the bible because any questions asked means they are not having enough faith with their god. Thus, to ease their own insecurity, they quote everything from the bible in hope to find someone agreeing with them and they will feel more superior or they felt they had done a good deed by quoting the bible and "save" a soul, and they think they will go to heaven based on it.
Believe me, I had seen these kind of christians, some were once my friends. When I ask some questions regarding the bible, the pastor chose to ignore it and say things like god work in mysterious ways, you cannot strive to understand it, you can only have faith. The fellow christians, well, they will come up with quotes and verses, each more beautiful then the other, but when you tell them that does not make sense, they will say things like "Satan has possessed you", "Satan has tempted you", "You must repent and pray to jesus christ to get rid of the devil" .... bla bla bla .....
So what you had asked is not new.

The title of this particular section of Y!A is Religion and Spirituality. Therefore, you are going to find both religious and spiritual people here. If you are a religious or spiritual person, probably you look to the Bible for many answers to life's little problems. So of course, people are going to offer quotes and scripture from the Bible or any other source they find personally helpful for them. I mean, if people didn't want real answers from other people, then they shouldn't be asking the questions. Now as for the brow-beating you are speaking of, that is wrong all the way...I totally agree with you there. Even the bible says not to push its ideas on others. Let them accept for themselves.

In some instances, faith in God is the only thing that will truly help someone. Under other circumstances however (like sexual abuse or physical abuse), faith is helpful to withstand the feelings associated with the problem but is not the solution. The solution in those cases is to take the issue to the authorities (police, family service agencies, a school counselor or trusted teacher etc.) As a Christian, God is always part of my life...an extremely important part...but the Bible does not answer every question or give solutions for every problem. Trusting in God is always good but I believe he expects us to do our share in changing things also.

how can i escape from drugs or alchohol' or 'my parents are sexually abusing me, beating me, help'
Personally, even as a Christian, I believe anything in the category of problems you listed requires the help of other individuals/programs/intervention. Nothing can replace care when it is needed. In these cases, personal care is not only needed, but required in order to receive help.
Fellow believers... don't get me wrong. Scripture is crucial to the life of any believer and in sharing with unbelievers, but... not at the expense of meeting their needs. Jesus met the needs of those around Him first. He helped, He healed and He loved them with action and empathy.

Many Christians have seen amazing changes happen in their own lives or someone they know because of scripture and faith. It's just well-intentioned advice and you don't have to follow it. I think it's a little extreme to call it brow beating when someone is only trying to help.
May God Bless you.

I think it shows a lack of tact. And what happens if the person is already religious but still having problems? It does occur. Religion can help but it's not always a cure-all.

Because my philosophy as a born again Christian is that if you know I'm a Christian and you ask my advise than you want a Christian's perspective if I did that too you I would expect a pagan answer from you. it's as simple as that.

Because we who believe in the bible know that all the answers are contained in it.
They are God's instructions on how to live life and get through it.
