I am going to have an air rifle. i dont want to scope it, I ain't going to go for competitions. I just want to "play" with it, shoot for targets like cans, bottles, dartboards, etc. It is going to be my very first air rifle. i am certainly going to shoot for light bulbs at night by camp-fire. which sight would be more accurate by these light circumstances?

TRUGLO sights are easy to see, particularly in low light conditions. I have used them on shotguns and pistols, but a precision rifle, no.

The micrometer sights are going to be much more precise and adjustable for fine target shooting from a bench or range in good light.

So, if you are going to hunt with it and need quick 'target acquisition' go with the glo sights. If you are a target shooter, get micrometer.

It sounds like you are destined to "shoot your eye out". Air rifle or powder rifle, you shouldn't be shooting it at night time like some kind of pretend 007 Secret Agent. Even night vision sites or scopes are rather miserable devices at aquiring targets at night or low visibility as they like to say. Low visibilty would dictate the fiber optic site but I am one who only does daylight shooting with the good old iron sites or black metal sites. If you take into consideration that for every enemy killed in Vietnam there were 50,000 rounds of small arms expended, it gives you some idea of just how difficult it is to engage a target while under fire and especially at night. Every missed target is a bullet flying through the air that will eventually strike something in its path. Hopefully not an innocent bystander or the windows on your mothers house. This would be followed by a much larger ballistic missle retaliatory strike known as your dads' foot to some part of your anatomy.

This manufacturer makes several air rifles with the micrometer adjustable rear sight. They are all decent enough but I would recommend putting a small scope on any of their guns. I find that the adjustments are not fine enough on this style of sight. If you did scope it, that would make any tru-glo or other sight obsolete. Tru-glo is really only useful for picking off dark targets that your front stud may get lost in. It is also a light source that your enemy/prey can see. I would not use one for an air rifle unless it is solely for target shooting, in which case tru-glo would be my pick. Overall I'd say get one without sights at all and scope it.

Just from what you've said, the micrometer sight will lend itself to greater accuracy than the tru glo fiber optic sight. The fiber optic sights i've used are usually fat, making small adjustments damn near impossible. The micrometer adjustment sight of course will be the most accurate. The Lyman type sights I use have micrometer adjustments, making them extremely accurate, much more accurate than i could ever be with a tru glo fiber optic sight.

Sights are more a matter of preference. In my opinion its better to try several out before making a decision. Age has alot to do with it. As you get older its harder to focus on both the sights and the target. At that point ther best option is a scope sight which eliminates that problem.

The easy answer is the micrometer sight. However for the low light work your doing and the plinking you seem to be interested in, it might better to use the Truglo. A low cost laser might work for you as well.
