Is it possible for you to put someone on your car insurance plan like to add a person on? Make sence?

The problem is this ...

My boyfriend has been using his grandpas truck for a few weeks to do his jobs and his grandpa recently called the insurance company and asked if my boyfriend was and or could be covered by his insurace company & they said no. So now my boyfriend cant use his grandpas truck which means he can't do his jobs (lawn care service). So he asked me today if i could ask my mom if she could add him on to her insurance so that would allow him to get a truck of his own to do work in, but it would only be for a year becuase when he is 18 he would get off my moms insurace and get his own. Also, he'd be paying his part while on my moms insurance. Make sence?

Ignore the answers above

He can't be added b/c your boyfriend is using the vehicle for business purposes. Therefore he needs a commercial policy, no personal auto policy would cover him if he had an accident while working.
The best thing he can do is get a commercial policy and have his grandfather also listed on it, this will keep the premimum down. Tell your boyfriend to call an independent insurance agent that sells Progressive Commercial Auto policies. They seem to have a niche for that market.

That all depends on your local laws and your insurance company. Usually all it takes is a call to your insurance company. If the person that you want to add has a valid license and clean driving record, your rates shouldn't change.

Someone lied to your grandpa. If your grandfathers truck is insured, that means that anyone driving the truck with his permission is covered. If a person is driving it often (like your boyfriend), he should be added to your grandfathers policy. If you BF is young or has a bad driving record, your grandfathers insurance will go up significantly.
PS- if he is using the truck for his lawn care service that is considered commercial usage and would require your boyfriend to take out a commercial polciy (more expensive). I would leave that part out when talking to your insurance co.
