I live in NYC and I pay 150 a week for my babysitter. She cares for him M-F 8-6, sometimes when I go on vacation she watches him overnight and I pay her 50 a night that she watches him.

Don't undercharge, charge ppl what you feel comfortable with. It's a lot of work to care for kids that why I give my babysitter extra sometimes bc she does a great job.

I have two children (1 and 2) in daycare so they give me the multiple kid discount. 90.00 for each child. Therefore a month I pay the daycare 720.00. Starting your own daycare can be so beneficial. What I would recommend becuase each area is different is to call all local (within 50 mile radius) of your home and ask their prices. Then lower your price just a little. Once your are licensed you can write off part of your electric bill and phone and cable. There are food program that help with the cost. Just make sure that you specify in a handbook that your clients have to pay whether the child comes or not, otherwise you lose out on money every time the child is sick. Good luck. I know a lot of people that have successed.

I charge $20.00 a day for the first kid and 10 for the second and 5 for any additional kids. so that I guess is 175 for three kids. If you get past that the parents really have no reason to work other than to pay you.

I guess it depends on where you live and what type of income the parents you are serving have.

How many employees you are going to need to hire. are you going to supply diapers snacks and food? You will have to purchase books crayons and construction paper glue craft material toilet paper bleach for cleaning the electric used laundry detergent for misshapes paper plates bowls disposable silverware, table clothes meals. Rent or mortgage payment. printer paper ink the computer phone bill tooth brushes nap pads That all affects the price tag.

It really depends on how big or small you want to go.

Sit down and figure out what the over head is going to be,
add it all up, then set your price.

That is the only way you can do it. No one can really tell you how much to charge.

Make sure you can cover the bills and have a profit.

I have only *paid* by being a good friend and also helping out when needed. Luckily I only really need childcare when I am in the hospital giving birth. DH and I have opposing schedules so that one of us is always home.

Do you have any tips on how to start a daycare at home? I see many people need daycare that is more affordable as some of the prices seem outrageous.

I baby sit for my daughter staying in their home four days and three nights. She pays me what she would have had to pay her last day care provider and latch key for the oldest which totaled $300 a week for three kids. I help with the laundry, do general pick up several times a day and do most of the dishes while I am there. I also taxi the girls to activities and pre school. I will be doing it until my daughter finishes her teaching internship in May 2008 then I will "retire".

It varies by area....

I live in a rural area, and the last time I paid a daycare, it was 75.00 a week, regardless whether he was there or not, or break it down to 15.00 a day, and paid for the days they are there.

Honestly, I wouldn't go any cheaper...this is your house your intending to use, you'll have food cost, baby wipe cost, a lil more electricity, a lot more to clean.....and a whole lot of other cost to figure in. (1st aid kit, toys, etc...)

Even though that was a few years ago....I still think thats about the going rate, I do know some that are a bit higher though....

I paid $145 a week for center based infant care in the city. Now we use a center closer to home so my son doesn't have to drive 1.5 hours a day with mommy. We pay $400 a month for toddler care and I contribute to the classes snacks and misc items (wipes, tissues) each month. The first place required us to provide all food and drink, the current place requires that we provide lunch-they provide snacks.

Check to see what your local providers charge-if the going rate in your community is $75 a week and you charge $100 you may not get any children.

$29 a day for a 2 year old, in a private home day care. Have seen anywhere from $25 to $35 for this age.

Also were in a medium city in the midwest. And the daycare is licensed. We were in an un-licensed (friends house) for awhile and I will NEVER to that again.

For full time for 1 child I've paid anything from $100 to $110 per week for full time. I did have one daycare when my son was a newborn where I paid $2.50 per hour with a certain minimum amount but when I pay by the week its the same whether he's there or not.
