On top of arthritis you have the "seeing" problem too! It is incredibly hard to see the little tiny piece that you are supposed to peel back. A hammer works great!...plus the pill is already to go! (I generally have one of my kids open the entire package for me and then put them in another bottle (without a child-proof lid!!!!)

If pressing the blister side dosesn't work and I am sick and really need to get the cold and flu meds out of the package I grab a knife and have away at it till I get the pill or get scissors and cut the side.

I usually find that after my fingers get all cut-up from trying to open the darn package, that the blood softens the glue and makes it easier to open.

I find that cutting one side of the backing and then pushing the pill out works pretty well.

Some medications come in easy-to-open blister packs. They are generally labelled as not being for homes with small children. You might want to look for alternative packaging.

Oh! You are supposed to open them? I have always just cut one off with scissors and taken it with the plastic on.

I applaud the people who answered truthfully this question.
I wonder about the other two weirdos who answered. The one made me sick and the other was just pure spam. Please report this abuse to yahoo. it's just bad for people who are trying to help. Thank you.

Press the blister side, which forces it through.
