As an atheist, I also am fed up with the way some of us act. I don't believe in god, but I would never tell you that you should think the same way. I don't like anyone telling others their beliefs are wrong, and I am perturbed when anyone tries to force feed their beliefs to others. Regardless of what religion a person is or isn't, that type of behavior is what leads to false assumptions about the rest of the believers. I'm glad you made your argument this way, and I'm glad you recognize that not all of us atheists act that way. You are correct ma'am.

Your question and statements are pretty much based on the idea that atheists are effectively interlopers in this category, and shouldn't be here at all. That's debatable, and given that there doesn't seem to be an Atheism topic - and that we atheists are deeply concerned about religion - I rather think we have a right to be on here.
Consider: if this were an Anti-Racism topic, and we were racists coming in and shooting our mouths off, we'd certainly get on your nerves. And I think this is a little like the way you perceive the situation.
But to us, this is more like a Pro-Racism topic, and we're the anti-racists coming in and shooting our mouths off. Who's to say that this isn't a more accurate description?
You don't like us, and we don't like you - though it's not usually personal. We both say nasty things about the other, and that's probably the way it should be. From your point of view, we're lost souls probably heading for a terrible fate - shouldn't that be enough to satisfy any hatred you may be struggling to suppress within your pious bosom?
From *our* point of view, you're (and I don't mean you personally) deluded at best, possibly brainwashed, stuck in a potentially dangerous fantasy, frequently spreading lies and hatred about groups you disapprove of, backed up by a Bronze Age credo with little or no relevance to the modern world. And while we atheists probably have very little impact on your lives away from Y!A, your religion constrains a great deal of our lives, our laws, and our government. We see and live in a world that is in thrall to an idea we find repulsive and silly, and kills people routinely.
So we're inclined to be a little rude about it. Sorry. It's not you - it's the company you keep. Especially the imaginary ones.

I do criticise people for believing in god, in the same way that I criticise people who think that repeatedly hitting themselves in the head with a big stick is a good thing.
I'm aware that sensitivity is required because the belief is important to people, but that doesn't make those beliefs any more correct on a factual level.
If you're saying there is a god, then you are making a functional statement about the way the universe works which, with the knowledge we have today, is looking increasingly unlikely of having even a shred of supporting evidence.

First off, I am a Christian!
There is just a lot of bashing that goes on here. This is done by atheists, Christians, Muslims, etc. Some Christians really disappoint me when they get involved in these senseless arguments. Although we are supposed to spread the love and knowledge of our Creator, there is no point in talking upon deaf ears. And when Christians get into these dumb internet arguments, it does nothing for anyone but the opposers. I, for one, am very passionate about my love for God, but I do not feel like I have to defend Him from all of the religion bashers on here because they have to deal with Him personally come judgment time. We let them know, and they are given the opportunity to allow something real into their lives, that's all we can do.
And all of the Christians on here bashing other religions and atheists should really stop. Just let them bask in their ignorance, because there will come a day when they will know and will no longer be able to escape from the inevitable truth.

who made you god?
the amount of God Squad members putting sermons on line to questions not connected to Religion in anyway shape or form is ridiculous.
if there is any Atheist's throwing there beliefs back at people I'm sure it is only because they are fed-up, as i am of the amount of times religion is preached to them!
why should anyone have to injure a lecture about Jesus and God if you haven't asked for one?
how dare these people decide that i should be preached at, about something i have no interest in, and whats more if i did want to know about it, i would go to Church not on line.
and whats more if you state your an atheist on here, your labelled by these idiots as an evil spirit who is going to hell.
I'm sure the amount of Atheist's to God Squad Members spouting on about there cause on here is about 1 to 5 as i have never seen an Athiest rant on, yet but i have seen plenty of the god squad giving there all.
but what do you do, instead of going to the real route of the problem, and say something about the thousands of Religious nuts spoiling this website. you decide to use your question to have an inexcusable rant about Atheist's
if your an Atheist then so be it, if your Religious then so be it personally i couldn't give a monkeys.
but I'm seriously fed-up with the constant childish rants regarding something that cannot be proved either way
do me a favour
give it a rest and let people do there own thing!

Just think of it this way, if they were not questioning, they wouldn't be challenging you to research what you believe, and to have all the information you need to know that in your heart, what you believe is true for you. Then, no matter what anyone says or asks, they will not be able to break your strength in your own faith. In the grand scheme of things, it boils down to you, and you alone. Many people who are unsure of anything, frantically look to find others who are also looking for answers, and those who are not confident. They are easy prey. Misery loves company. If one is secure in what they believe, they really aren't going to give a rat's *** about what other people think, or go out of there way to argue that what someone else believes is wrong - as long as it doesn't involve amoral activity or illegal activity or killing people, you know what I mean.

I think you got it backwards sweety. Atheists do not seek out Christians to put them down. Christians DO try to make others feel bad giving the idea they will go to hell if the people do not think like they do. If you really tally the messages I think you will find this is true. I get very tired of Christians intruding on other people's beliefs. Further, you may notice there are many religions like Muslims, Buddhists, Jews and others and none of them have a history of intruding on others beliefs so consider this

I'm proudly atheist.
I can say 'there is no God', as freely as anyone can say there is.
Call me arrogant, but in my mind I know there is no God.
I have spent my life being spoon fed religion, yet I've considered myself an atheist as long as I can remember.
I actually despise the whole idea of religion; not the particular beliefs them self. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but some go plainly deny facts in order to prove their religion 'right'.
I'm not shoving my beliefs down anyone's throat, I'm simply saying-
We only get one life, why waste it following some religion we don't truly believe?
And if you do truly believe-then good luck. :)

Hi (i'm Christian);
You need to look at this in perspective:
Here we are, all of us, each sitting at a computer. Some are the children of God, some are not. Those who are, want to
talk about different things relating to religion, and those who are not, really don't have anywhere to actually be in that discussion, so they get bored and what is there to do now? Joke around and give pissy answers to questions, which just happen to be religion questions because this is the forum we are on. Thats really all it is; idle minds, idle hands.
Everytime i see a question like yours, I have to ask myself: what would i act like if i was sitting on the lesbian/gay forum for two hours. hmm....
