It is the fear of loss of revenue from advertisers that is forcing MSNBC to cut Imus' TV telecast not some "high moral" decision on the part of the producers. The fact of the matter is NBC and others sponsor rap music groups whose lyrics are far worse than anything Imus said. But no complaint no loss of advertisers. Therein is the difference.

he's not any longer getting punished for freedom of speech. in case you've faith that, then you rather do not comprehend how large this proper is. Google "china, tanks, protest" and also you'll see what some international places imagine about the freedom of speech. Imus is getting fired for being a stupid worker. the individuals protesting the warriors' funerals are not employed by using every body there who can hearth them for paintings out their freedom of speech. the first change is about authorities intervention or punishment. that is not any longer there to make employers keep an worker who drives away funds (sponsors).

You’re improperly mixing up concepts. Imus was fired by NBC because they’re in business to make money and advertisers were starting to bail. Imus can say whatever he wants but he can’t expect to remain broadcasting on NBC saying it.
The members of the Baptist church who protest at soldiers’ funerals are expressing their views of homosexuality in the military. Who is going to fire them? The best anyone can do is bring attention to how extreme they are and keep them as far away from the bereaved families as is legally possible.

I hope sharpton keeps his mouth going because D. Imus is going to sue him if and when he loses a single penny from his contract. You can be certain after the judge rules in Dons favor the reverend will shut his big mouth then! As for Imus getting paid to say what he did, well actually it's his style that brings the viewers to that channel so the advertisers can reach a larger audience! So based upon that fact he is indeed paid to say that type of thing. He is paid to be controversial!

Actually, who stopped IMUS from saying anything ?
IMUS is getting fired, because his comments are costing MSNBC and CBS money.
Freedom of Speech, means just that, you are free to say whatever you want to say.
It doesn't mean there are no consequences to your speech.
In the case of IMUS, the advertisers have decided that they don't want their products associated with IMUS.
MSNBC and CBS are losing money because of it, so they made a business decision and fired IMUS, so the advertisers will come back.

The westboro baptist people (which btw they are not a legal claimed by the baptists baptist church) are freaking sic in the head and when I go home on leave I plan on doing something about it since the FBI or no one else will. They protested my battle buddies funeral and I also got spit on by them. Second as to answer your question I think it is stupid. and personally I have heard worse comments from other people and not to sound racist but how come there can be an NAACP black history month black pride etc all sorts of minority groups but If I were to take pride in being white or say anything to any one I would be a racist however I can be called cracker honky etc or my kids can in an inner city predominately minority area.? I just don't get it. I fight to protect peoples freedom of speech but there is a point that it needs to be regulated. ironic part is they are protesting the people that give them the power to not get shot for what they are doing. ...... people who protest the funerals are ignorant. and why should Imus be punished when almost all of the rap stars songs say the same thing that Imus did. if your gonna punish him then you need to punish them.

I agree with the guy who pointed out that IMUS did exercise his Freedom of Speech: it's NOT the FCC who is after him, it's the public (albeit a tiny minority) who threaten his sponsors exercising THEIR Freedom of Speech by threatening boycott.
What irks MY backside is Sharpton, Jackson, et al who rise up and scream... yet won't lift a finger against rappers who are FAR worse in their language...

Don't give Sharpton and Jackson any ideas, they will protest anything. The protesters should be shot on the spot. That goes beyond your rights.
