Braces usually work, except in extreme cases.

It depends on the severity. Some Dentists can use an appliance called an Herbst. It basically pulls back the jaw. My mother had to have it on because of adverse effects of anesthesia. It was a LONG 6 months. Surgery may be the better way to go. It's over and done and once healed you won't have any problems. With an appliance, you have many trips to the Dr., problems eating, and pain. (Though my mom loved the 20lbs she lost!) It's a personal choice and you can always ask another Dentist for a second opinion if you want to avoid surgery. Good Luck

patient should have worn retainers after wearing braces to avoid relapse of the correct overbite. no need to undergo surgery, the patient may consult back her orthodontist for she know her history and may take further examination to know what have been the cause of the relapse. but retainers could have been the simplest way to have the corrected bite maintained. minimum of 6 months to 2 years of wearing the retainers could have been a help while waiting for the lost bone to regenerate so that the bite will not go overbite again. i hope this help.

Surgery is only needed with a SEVERE over bite!! ... most people can go to an orthodontist to corrrect this. Between braces and properly using your retainer for the entire suggested length of time, the over bite can be fixed.
