they must have something seriously wrong with them as their immune system is non existent

Chickenpox is caused by a Virus called varicella-zoster which is also known as human herpes virus 3.
The virus is able to remain dormant in certain nerve cells and usually healthy people do not aquire chicken pox again.
The virus is able to make a come back as shingles later in life when the immune system becomes weak or suppressed by disease.
It might be that what you have is not chicken pox or that you have a disease or a medical condition that is suppressing your immune system.
