In his final judgement in the Dover trial, Judge Jones absolutely slammed the proponents of intelligent design. Among his comments was, "The overwhelming evidence at trial established that ID is a religious view, a mere re-labeling of creationism, and not a scientific theory."

Why do the proponents of this religious dogma continue to claim that it is science and why do they even bother trying to suggest that it is anything other than creationism with a different title?

Science requires evidence, if people understood that you wouldn't have idiots trying to get creationism into science. Most scientists know that, so what do creationists and supporters of ID do when the very science itself shows them as whackjobs? Take it to court. Only to get shot down again.

The most likely answer is that because science (a way by which God reveals itself to itself, vis a vis you and me) has made so many strong rebuttals against religious doctrine over the centuries, and thus correctly handed the church some of it's more humiliating losses, many religious thinkers are trying to make the 'science' work for them.

The reason they are failing is quite simple: they are trying to make the 'science' fit the 'belief', not the other way around. In other words, when science 'oks' what they believe, they accept it, but when it calls into question an aspect of their faith (one can consider it God's call to judgement, discernment and reevaluation) they reject it. If science IS a tool/aspect of the divine, then discarding it's voice, however unpleasant as it may be, is the same as when followers choose to ignore the teachings/warning of a prophet.

There are actually many ways in which science can enrich one's spiritual/religious experience, and to that extent science is as much the 'word' of God as what is written on a piece of paper by a famous dead guy. However, science also has its limits, and such limits are where the articles of 'faith' and 'belief' take over.

Science must stop at the edge of the cliff, but that is where religion truly takes over, in the faith it takes to walk off. Science is not 'anti-god' except as people choose to make it, and that includes those of a religious perspective.

Because they hate the idea of Evolution with their every breath. The idea that humans are just animals is repulsive to them. It's a visceral response that has nothing to do with logic, reason or science.

So, they feel a need to fight fire with fire. The only way to do that is to launch a desperate campaign to swathe their fairy tales in the garb of science. Then, they move it into the arena of public opinion as an "alternative" to Evolution (the fact that the arena of real science has denied them entry is of no real concern, because that's not where public policy is formulated).

If they didn't have such good PR, it would be pathetic.

Wow the first two answers were apparently by people who shouldn't be allowed in the halfway home's computer room.

The FACT is, ID is mythology. Nothing more. There are NO hypothesis, NO theories and NO science involved with ID. None.
Just ask the proponents of ID to provide ONE single hypothesis regarding their "science" and they'll look at you dumbfounded.

Because there is big money to be made claiming that evolution is wrong.

They're not educated enough. They don't know what the word "scientific" means

Because they don't even understand what science is.

Same reason scientists call it "science" and not "magic".

7 thumbs down, a new record ! Glad to see so much support for the people(scientists, or as I like to call them, magicians) who stated bumble bees could not possibly fly according to the laws (laws, mind you) of aerodynamics, and exploded a nuclear bomb after telling the president "well, we don't think it will cause a chain-reaction that will destroy the earth, but we're not sure..." and then still exploded it. Lucky for us they were right that time.

religion and science are two sides of the same coin...... what you call science .... is the explanation of the material.... matter.... of what is there........ religion as you call it is the explanation of what is not there.... anti matter..... in the way i experience God.... science and religion dont have any clashes...... you see these clashes... because either you havent understood religion or science.....
