I'm just curious, I don't really know much about the Bible, just things I've seen on National Geographic. So what would happen if he didn't die for us? What would the world be like?

It means he has been turned into a blood sacrifice.

There have always been two competing "religions" of ancient humanity- those who see blood and wickedness as the "short cut" to divine inspiration ala the gods and those who see a long path of separation, respect and self-denial.

When the religion of Christianity was created by Paul of Tarsus and his masters, the Jewish High Priests who had Jesus crucified in the first place, their mission was to subvert everything about Jesus and his movement called the "Nazarenes".

The easiest way to do that was to turn the story of his Crucifixion into being the central element of this new religion and to treat what Jesus said as secondary.

To this day, many Christians believe the resurrection is the No 1 issue and the wisdom of Jesus as a distant last place. How crazy is that!

Jesus is the way! Jesus took our sin upon Himself (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus died in our place (Romans 5:8), taking the punishment that we deserve. Three days later, Jesus rose from the dead, proving His victory over sin and death (Romans 6:4-5). Why did He do it? Jesus answered that question Himself, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13). Jesus died so that we could live. If we place our faith in Jesus, trusting His death as the payment for our sins - all of our sins are forgiven and washed away. We will then have our spiritual hunger satisfied. The lights will be turned on. We will have access to a fulfilling life. We will know our true best friend and good shepherd. We will know that we will have life after we die - a resurrected life in heaven for eternity with Jesus!

Christians believe that Jesus was the earthly manifestation of God Himself ... Jesus is God; whatever your beliefs and I know I'm going to get lambasted off all the cuddly little athiests out there, it is important to remember that that is how evangelical Christians view Jesus.

The Jews would use sheep and lambs as a sacrifice to pay for past sins. They would pick the most perfect animal they could afford and believed that by shedding its blood, they were atoning for their sins.

Jesus came for two reasons. To show us how to lead the perfect life in relation to God and our fellow man AND, he came to be the once and for all atoning sacrifice. The perfect for the imperfect.

When you hear the phrase 'Jesus died to save us' we mean it literally. Not that I don't expect to die, I will, as will everyone and everything else on this planet but the 'saving' Jesus died for is a spiritual one.

In my job, we have to lie to our clients for their own good. I'm a carer and half of my ladies and gentlemen have dementia. How do you explain to a ninety year old lady that the father she's calling out for won't come .... or that the gentleman isn't expected back at home because the wife he thinks he's going back to died ten years ago?

It's no good trying the truth and believe me I try because to them, that's the lie. "I'm sorry sir (I do call my gentlemen, 'Sir'), your wife died, you were at her funeral. Now, you live here, with us, in an old people's home and we look after you." We do sometimes come away with bruises.

Anyway, I digress. A common comment amongst carers is "We'll never go to Heaven!" When I hear that, I always say "I will."

My place was assured 24 years ago this September when I accepted that Jesus died for me.

It doesn't mean that I have to be super religious .. heck, I don't even go to church anymore and the only magazine I read is a .... horror of horrors ... scientific one (BBC Focus). I don't 'Bible bash' but if asked my opinion, I will give as full an answer as I can muster.

I've noticed that lots of Christians on here give Bible references as part of their answer, sometimes texts ARE their answer but if you don't believe the Bible is the revealed Word of God, they aren't going to mean much.

So, I'm just going to end by saying that Jesus died for me, I don't fear death (just the pain that normally goes before it) and no matter how depressed I get - and boy can I hit rock bottom on a regular basis, just the thought of my Jesus can get me giggling like a little school girl again.

And I hope that in the midst of all that, I've actually managed to answer your question.

Ignore National geographic---it is anti-Christian and pro-evolution. Jesus died as God's perfect sacrifice for out sin nature. Only a sinless person could die for sin; therefore, God sent to us His only Son, manifest in the flesh to die for sin in the flesh. Read Romans chapter 8 for a good rendering on the subject. Also, 1 Corinthians 15:1-8. For the prophesy of the gospel, read Isaiah chapter 53.

All of us have inherited sin and death from Adam. Jesus lived a perfect life which God allowed to be put in the place of Adam's sinful life so that Jesus could be "the second Adam" and be our ancestor in place of Adam if we chose to follow him instead. If Jesus didn't die for us, we would die after just a short life on earth and God would never resurrect us--we would just stay dead.

Jesus, a real historical person, did die to save us; but save us from what? The answer found in the Bible is the wrath of God. All men are born in sin, and also commit sin during their lives. This offends a holy God and demands payment. Jesus, God's son yet also man, lived a perfect life and offered Himself up to appease God and pay for our sins. He took upon Himself our sins, and we in turn inherit His righteous standing before God. That is, if we humbly accept this sacrifice on our behalf. I am encouraged that you ask the question, but you must read the Book of John or the Book of Romans in the New Testament. Keep seeking and you will be found.

Briefly, God made the world to be good but humans sinned. Becaue God is righteous, all sin has to be punished. Like how we think all criminals should be punished. The spiritual law says that the punishment for all sin is death. If God didn't punish evil, he wouldn't be perfect and wouldn't be fit to judge anyone. So death is the natural consequence for everyone who sins. Like how the law of gravity will pull you down if you jump of a tall building, the law of sin says you will die if you have done anything wrong. Large or small. God gave people a stop-gap measure to get around this. He gave people 10 commandments to live by and then told them that if they sinned, instead of dying themselves, they could kill an animal in their place. Normally a lamb. That way, the law wasn't being broken and sin was still leading to death. But instead of your death, it was the death of an innocent animal in your place. However, this was a messy and ineffective method so he came up with the ultimate plan to save men from suffering the consequence of their sin. He sent Jesus into the world to suffer the death that would naturally have belonged to us. So again, sin was still equalling death but instead of our death, he was taking it upon himself. then, by overcoming death and rising again, he defeated it forever. Thereby restoring the relationship between men and God that was broken at the beginning. Basically it's like this....

Imagine you're in a restaurant and you've just eaten and the waiter comes with the bill. Then imagine a stranger at the next table offers to pay that bill for you. You have a decision. Pay it yourself or let the other guy pay it. But one thing is certain, one of you WILL pay it before you leave. That's where humans are. Either you pay for sin with your own death or you let Jesus pay it for you. Pride stops some people from accepting the offer, others don't know the offer exists. But he remains our only hope for eternal life with God.

Its a long story, but goes like this (I have cut it down): when God created the earth he put man of the earth to look after it. God also gave man the freedom of choice and the freedom to do as he pleased on the earth. There was one thing that man was not to do, but man with the freedom of choice, chose to disobey God. So God condemed mad to death instead of living for ever. Later on God gave man a second chance. this took the form of Jesus who lived & died that after the day of judgement if we had chosen to believe in God & Jesus then we would live forever, without any sickness or death on the earth.
If Jesus did not live of die for mankind then, man would not have to chance of forgivness or knowing the love of God. As for how the world would be. Iam not sure

Some people believe in the literal interpretation of the Bible. They believe in Adam and Eve. They believe in a vengeful God who demanded human sacrifice to make up for Original sin. (The sin of disobedience of Adam and Eve) They believe that Jesus saved us by dying on the cross.
There are other devout Christians who believe that God is not a vengeful God. The story of Adam and Eve is a myth. Original sin is the sin of all of humankind. That Jesus' whole life was a sacrifice. The fact that God became one of us was a sacrifice. Jesus died on the cross because people, not God put Him there. Jesus saves us by giving us an example of Himself to show us how to live. By His example we are saved from our own ego and interpretation as to how we are to conduct ourselves.

Jesus replaced into sinless. in the previous testomony and the recent sacrifices have been made for the sins human beings dedicated. An animal had to be slaughtered only so the sinner realised the dreadfulness of sinning against God. That existence blood replaced into shed because of the fact of their sin. Likewise, Jesus willingly went to his dying that sin may well be defeated for believers who have been obedient to God's procedures. Jesus knew the suffering and discomfort he might would desire to bypass via, as he instructed his disciples, yet they did not understand till the crucifixion actually surpassed off. If we particularly have confidence in God and want to do His can we can be baptized into that dying and are available as much as newness of existence. via this we renowned that we turn to God and go away our previous procedures of existence. Our sins are blotted out. only as Jesus replaced into raised to eternal existence so, if we particularly attempt to be obedient to his Father, we can be raised whilst Jesus returns. All it fairly is via the grace of God. remark: we regularly hear that Jesus died as a replace persons. We die. Our breath (pneuma) is going yet via having complete faith we've the possibility of resurrection.
