Sometimes my heart beats really fast and I can feel it in my chest. It only beats like a couple of times like that and it makes me have a shortness of breath. It usually happens when Im laying down.

You are experiencing palpitations or perhaps it may be because you are hyperventilating (breathing too fast). Try to relax yourself by exercising slow breathing technique or if you feel breathless, try proppinng yourself up more pillows. It allows you to breath better.

However, palpitation and SOB when laying down may also indicate that you may have a heart problem. Therefore, it is best for you to consult a cardiologist if this problem persists :)

Have you been to the doctors to get that checked. you should request to have an e.k.g testing. Some times that happens to me when I'm under allot of stress and i cold feel it pound fast against my chest also. You could be under allot of stress or going through a form of anxiety. Are you dieting? drinking caffeinated drinks? Are you exercising late at night? because this could do it to you also if your not resting properly it can effect the rhythm of your heart rate. Before you go to bed try to relax the best that you can and take deep breaths through your nose hold for 7 sec. then exhale through your mouth do this 10 times. this will relax you and your muscles and your heart is a muscle that can be treated with relaxation methods we can sooth it. With the breathing technique you don't Want to go fast breath in gently and release slowly.
I hope this helps.

I have the same thing. I it mainly happens when I am laying down. they say I have palpatations caused my a extra electricle current in my heart or some crap like that. def get it checked out. I didnt and it eventually got so bad I passed out and lost my vision while I was driving. I got my vision like 2 seconds later but it was scary as hell. thank god no one was standing on the side of the road when I went off it. But def def get it checked out. and not all palpatations are caused by stress or caffein. I dont drink caffein at all. and I am not under any stress.

how old are you? Sounds like you have an irregular heartbeat. There are many different kinds of irregular heartbeats. Look it up on the internet and you'll see all the different kinds. Could be atrial fibrulation (sp?). I'm 44 years old and I started getting an irregular heartbeat about 5 years ago. I completely stopped drinking caffiene drinks (coffee, soda, etc.) and it improved greatly.

What you describe is called palpitations. Certain medications or combinations of medicines can cause palpitations. Next time you see your doctor tell him about your palpitations, he/she can tell you more about them as they know your medical history better.
