Saw the answers, and it seems like most of you don't understand that she CAN and DOES drink from a regular cup all day long. It is only the one bottle at bedtime I am referring to. I REALLY took offense to the tone of some of these answers. My daughter has been reading on her opwn since she was 4, and is at the top of her kindergarten class; so stop making it sound as if we are both retrds please. I am not perfect, neither is she and neither are any of you. Was just asking for suggestions, so please try to be less judgemental in the way you go about sharing advice.

Don't give it to her. You should have stopped 4 years ago.

First of all noone is perfect so we shouldn't slam people that are asking for help.
Now, try the sippy cup or stuffed animal. Also explain it in a way that makes her feel grown up. Act excited like today is a SPECIAL day that we get to go pick out something cuddly to replace the bottle. The allure of shopping for toys may over come the desire to hang on the the "baby bottle"

Why in the world do you still have bottles in the house??????
Take them away. Throw them out. It will be pretty dang hard for her to suck on a bottle if there are no bottles.
Oh, and being that old, I wouldn't even bother with a sippy cup. She's more than capable of drinking from a regular cup by now.

My son was 3 before he finally got done with the bottle before going to bed. One of my friends suggested talking with my son. I mean what could it hurt. Your daughter is 5 and I know that she would understand more than a 3 year old. So I would suggest that you talk to her. Tell her that she is 5 years old and that she is a big girl. That big girls don't need suck on bottles at her age. Tell her only little babies suck on bottles. But the most important thing of all when she finally understands you need to have her throw all the bottles away in the garbage. So when she starts throwing fits about how she wants her bottles, you will just say in a firm but gentle manner that she is a big girl and big girls don't suck on bottles anymore. After she throws her bottles away let her pick something out at the store to replace her bottle. Like a stuff toy.

Tell her no, take it away and deal with the crying for a few days....she is way too old to be drinking a bottle. Have you thought of using a sippy cup?
Be the parent, set down the rules.

This sounds harsh, but throw those bottles away. I tossed out my childrens bottles on there first birthday, and gave them sippy cups. My son is three and my daughter is four. I still allow them to keep a sippy full of water by ther bed, in case they get thirsty, but bottles at bed time are bad for your childs teeth. (My four year old does drink out of a regular cup, I just give her a sippy at night so it won't spill out)

I just have to say.....are you serious? Okay, assuming you are, if that were my 5 year old, I would set up some sort of reward system for each night of not using a bottle. After one week, if you are still having issues, THROW OUT THE BOTTLES!!!! If you can't part with them, cut off the nipple top.

Throw all the bottles in your house away and go get some cups. This should have stopped years ago, and now she's going to start school without knowing how to drink from a cup? Shame on you!

The only thing you can do to stop is to take it away from her. She's old enough for you to sit down and talk to her and tell her that this is not something big kids do,it's not good, and that you're going to stop giving it to her today. It's not good for her to be so dependent on something like this. You just have to pick a day, and take it away, no questions no doubts, just do it. Good luck to you!

the best way actually is to take it away from her completely. Yes, she will cry and scream but it is better that drinking from a bottle forever. And reward her with something when she goes a night without asking for it, but I would just say go cold turkey.

You will have to just take it away one day and do not give it back. It will be very hard but do not give in. Hopefully you are brushing her teeth before she goes to sleep now but give her a sippy cup of milk but you must brush her teeth before going to bed.
hang in there, it will be hard but only for a few days if you stick with it
