I am having a problem finding affordable seaweed of good quality. I also am wondering the difference between the roasted version and the toasted version. I got the toasted seaweed for 5.50 for only 5 sheets and that seems outrageously high.

Roasted and toasted are the same thing.

You can get Korean made Nori for cheap. 50 sheets for 10 dollars or less. Japanese ones usually cost 10 times that amount.

Be careful when you go to inexpensive varieties regardless of country of origin. Some are less crispy and/or have some strange after taste. If you end up with them, try drying it over an open flame. Usually, you can crisp them up and remove most of the strange flavor.

I believe what I used to buy was $2.95 for 8 sheets or so. I hope you are not buying these at health food stores or super markets. Their prices are very inflated. You should go to Asian stores.

Wow, that does seem high. I get it at my health food store-about 3.59 for 10 sheets. Do you have an asian market anywhere near you? The difference between the toasted and roasted is the toasted is just dry heated, and the roasted is brushed with sesame oil. Have you tried wakame, arame or kombu? They are other seaweeds that are delicious. I make salads and soups with them
