First, I am a 25 year old male, very athletic. I work out about 4 days a week(well, prior to the difficulty taking deep breaths). I do not smoke. I have never had any breathing problems in the past.
For the last couple months, I have been having having difficulty taking deep breaths, almost daily. It is really uncomfortable. It's like I have to strain to take a deep breath, and even then it doesnt fix anything.
I did go to the doctor and had chest xrays. Xrays were fine. He gave me some allergy medicine in case it was that, which did not help. I also have tried xanex b/c it was suggested i may have anxiety, but xanex also has not helped. By the way, there is nothing stressful or anything like that going on in my life, so dont think it's anxiety.
If anyone can please help me, and tell me what I may have or how to fix it. Also is there ANYTHING around the house that I may all of the sudden become allergic to that would cause this? Im at a total loss here. Thanks!

It sounds like it could be asthma. Ask your doctor about it. I have asthma and I experience the same thing. It won't go away unless you get the proper medication, which will more than likely be an inhaler. Good luck. :(

That's very strange - does it seem like it gets worse when you are at your house?
If not then it probably isn't allergies - unless it's something that is all over the place (depending on where you live - I'm in TN, and pollen is EVERYWHERE right now).
If the doc you went to couldn't find anything, then you might consider getting a second opinion.
You say you don't smoke - did you used to smoke and then quit? If so you might be having delayed effects. If not, then look at other factors - is your heart rate normal?
If something is keeping your body from transferring oxygen from your lungs into your blood, then it may be causing it. I would definitely check with some other doctors - maybe even a specialist.
Good luck!!

You haven't said anything, like if you are coughing have a cold etc.
A few years back I had the same problem, but mine started more sudden and I wasn't able to take a deep breath at all.My x-rays showed, that part of one lung had collapsed, but it took another doc to see it in the x-ray!!!
You could also have a muscle strain from exercising,I would take a few days off from exercise, use a heating pad, take hot baths and see,if it makes a difference.
Hope you feel better soon and maybe another doc should tke a look at your x-ray or have another one taken.

I suggest a second opinion. Since you are still having symptoms (and serious ones at that), see another doctor and review the tests already taken with the second doctor. Ask about asthma as well as the strained muscle issue that the other writer wrote about. This is serious and you want a definite answer and relief--don't wait.

An allergist can do a simple test on you that will tell you exactly what it is that you are allergic to. Did your doctor do that? If not, ask them to. Once you identify what you are allergic to, you can see if you have it in your house. If that doesn't help, go back to your doctor and have them keep looking. Maybe it is something else! Get a second opinion if all else fails.

sounds like you have a pulled muscle either in your back or maybe your chest
worst case scenario...you could have a spontaneous pneumothorax which is a hole in the lung (laymans terms) which can cause a lung to "collapse". believe it or not males between 16-26 are more likely to have this happen than anyone else, especially active males.
hope this helps

Could be something so simple as acid reflux---I have that and it causes shortness of breath. You could also have an oncoming of an upper respiratory infection.
