If it's authentic Mexican, then yes. I've always read that when you visit another country as a tourist, look for the restaurants where the locals eat. Around here there's a great little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant and the only people there are Hispanic/Latino. And that restaurant has the BEST food. If there are too many tourists there, go somewhere else.

Most restaurants in America that supposedly flaunt themselves as Mexican are nowhere near the real thing. You can find real Mexican food at the homes of Mexican immigrants or second or third generation Americans of Mexican descent. Lets face it, Mexican food that has been Americanized is what the average American expects to eat, you take them out of the comfort zone and offer them something that is authentic and they will refuse to accept it, like some jerk that posted a question remarking he and a friend went to eat at a Mexican restaurant that was offering dishes common to Oaxaca Cuisine, and because they were not tacos or burritos (how ignorant can you choose to be?) but mole, which is a bona fide Mexican dish they simply left and went to some crummy restaurant that served what they consider is Mexican food, as if they were certified experts.
Mexicans will not eat Americanized Mexican food.

My sister-in-law, Victoria who was born and raised in Mexico, near Mexico City, says that the Mexican Restaurants here are no different from going to an Asian or a Italian restaurant. No where like the food she grew up eating, so yes, she and my brother go there for the different tastes.

Only if it's real authentic Mexican food cooked by real Mexicans. They won't go to an Americanized Mexican restaurant if that's what you mean.

That's pretty much the ambiance I see in my area. I really enjoy it; it's always a fun atmosphere there: La Nueva Posada Mexican Restaurant - Pasadena, So. CA : Citysearch.com
Warm, loving surroundings, always busy. Closed on Mondays, though.
