I've had a fillin for about 5-6 years on my second molar on the bottom. Terrible toothaches from that tooth started about 4 days ago. Is it possible for me to have tooth pain from this tooth even if it's half fillin and half tooth? What could be the problem?

The pain is actually coming from the third bottom molar and not the second. The third molar is bigger than the first and second molars.

Well, you could have possibly fractured the filling. In which case the dentist could just replace the filling.

If your toothache however is set off by cold or hot sensitivity, you may need other treatment. If it is sensitive to heat, you will need a root canal. If just cold sensitive, then you may be able to get by with just a filling. If you have pain just when biting you probably have a broken filling that just need to be replaced.

Whichever kind of pain you have, it would be to your best advantage to seek treatment now. If there is decay underneath the filling they can go in and remove the decay and put in a new filling provided its not near the nerve. If the nerve is involved, you are looking at a root canal at the very least. Extraction is the last option, no treatment is also an option. Good luck.

You might have a cavity close to the nerve.
Pain wont get better, you need to go to the dentist.

While you wait for your appointment, you can try getting whole clove (it's a type of spice)..and you just keep it in ur mouth and it acts as an timed released anesthetic.

Also could use orajel over your gums.

...and Advil (if you're not allergic to it), (not tylenol)..
b/c Advil is anti inflammatory.

These are just a few over the counter things that may help you with your pain until your dental appointment, but you need to go to the dentist because nerve pains dont get better.
..and if the pain is too much to bear until the office visit, ask your dentist to prescribe you something for the time being.

Hope this info helps.

You could have a molar abscess.
That's serious and needs immediate attention from a dentist.
It hurts 24 hours a day, and you won't be able to relieve it yourself; it's an infection.
Better call a dentist and deal with it before you suffer any more.
Good luck, man!

Please go see a dentist...your tooth is dying and probably infected. This type of infection could cause serious health issues. Check the side of your face were the tooth is. If you see swelling or redness....see a dentist quick!. Otherwise, till then, take (3) Advil every 4-6 hours. This worked for me. Good luck This pain sucks I know.....(You will need a root canal)

JAMAR,

IF THIS PAIN IS IN THE AREA OF A BOTTOM SECOND MOLAR THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THE PAIN IS FROM A WISDOM TOOTH THAT'S RIGHT BEHIND THE SECOND MOLAR.
THE ONLY WAY TO FIND OUT FOR SURE IS TO SEE A DENTIST WHO CAN DO AN EXAM AND TAKE AN X-RAY OF THE AREA.
