Hypertension is simply high blood pressure. It's not something you need warning signs for, just check the number. Only "warning signs" I could imagine are lifestyle issues (high fat, high sodium diets, etc).

The optimal BP is 120/80 mmHg. Acceptable BPs range from 100-140 systolic. 140-160 systolic pressure could be classified as moderately high, anything over that would be considered high. A diastolic pressure over 100 would also be severe, but it's generally the systolic number that's more of an indicator.

(Systolic = bottom number, Diastolic = top number)

Only way to tell if someone has hypertension is to check their blood pressure.

They call hypertension the silent killer because they say there are no symptoms, but I knew some thing was wrong I became irritable, my face would flush , my heart would race , and even now after being diagnosed with hypertension I can tell when it is bothering me but some people never get any symptoms at all and you can check it at any drug store or walmart that has a bp machine., 120/80 is an awesome reading when the bottom gets close to 90 or 95 you got problems, see a doctor
