According to statistics, 20%-30% of the world's population are "vegetable-only" eating people. Of course, there are people that eat both meat and vegetables, but obviously, there are more meat-eating people. About 2.5%-3% in the U.S. are vegetarians (5 million approx.). About 400 million worldwide, in areas like Iindia and China.

**Comments (that don't answer the question): Vegetables have many nutrients that the body needs to stay healthy, but meat is essential for a diet. However, meat eaters suffer from cancer if they eat too much, but since meat has a high protein level, they turn out to be pretty muscular. Vegetables beans also have a lot of proteins, but not enough to compensate the loss from which meat can give you. Muslims are mostly vegetarian, because their religion forbids the consumption of pork, which makes India and parts of the Middle East populated countries with vegetarians. According to statistics, as well, vegetarians have a lower percentage of obesity levels in comparison to those who eat meat. Then again, it is essntial to eat veggies as well. Some "pros" to vegetable eating is: curing world hunger, for "it takes more energy to raise and produce animal meat than the meat itself provides", it is cheaper than diary and meat products, vegetarians cannot attain the mad cow disease, can help lower the risk of obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, a specific type of diabetes, and certain cancers.Vegetarians lack protein, iron, zinc, and vitamin B12, calcium, and vitamins A and D, which could easily be obtained from other foods. Thus, they catch more medical problems, mainly for lacking iron and protein. If you're a vegetarian, please note my advice to make sure you're consuming enough of those nutrients.

Depends really what social scene your into really. I've seen more then veggies and vegans then meat eaters in my time because I used to work in a health food shop giving advice to customers and almost everyone I spoke to either was a gluten free, veggie, vegan and many more types too. So you're not alone trust me there are many more out there, they just know that by not eating meat you have to be careful of what they do eat because of not getting a balanced diet. If you're not watching your diet you will regret it too if you're a vegetarian, so eat well and live long!

Unfortunatly they have us all out numbered . Something like 2% of the world's population are vegetarians. I feel sad when I hear that but just explore how deep rooted in society eating meat is. That makes me sad and so do people that believe that you can't heave a meal without meat ! I'm well out numbered as a vegan. I think that by the time I'm old at least 20% of the World's population will be veggie or vegan !

The last statistics I saw said that 1/3 of the human population are veggie.

Personally I got a lot of respect for veggies...i was 1 for 13 years but went back to eating meat.

I'm vegetarian but I reckon there'll be a lot more meat eaters than us veggies, especially as there are so many people on here who claim to be vegetarian but eat fish!

In the world. Well, in the world, people eat more veggies than meat of course, but 100% vegetarians? Hm, let's see, at least 3 million in Taiwan, about a billion in China, another Billion in India, Millions more in Isreal, Pakistan, Iran, Millions more in Europe, .... hm, there are lots, but not enough that are 100% to beat out the ones that partake in at least some meat.

Millions & I believe more than meat eaters but not by choice. Just look at impoverished communities throughout the world that survive on a handful of rice or whatever a day.

Anyway, since I became almost vegetarian i've been taking notes on how many people I know or meet are veggie, I recon about 25%?

Unless your in France - nearly impossible to eat veggie at restaurants over there!

dear fellow meat dodger, how many veggies where? UK ? Leeds? a survey in the late 80's showed that about a 1/4 of all females in the south of the UK were not eating red meat.
i bet the vegan society website could help.
Einstein[?] brain box bloke said once that 'nothing will advance the human race more than an adoption of a vegetarian diet'.
i am a life long veggie and vegan for about 12 years and work in remote wilderness doing unsupported expedition hill walking and canoeing, so it 'ain't an unhealthy option.

usual variety of other answers!!?
yes, the amazing human body can eat many 'foods' but we have lost our appendix [which used to allow us to digest bone, roots, berries, etc] and our wee k9 teeth could never rip through hide etc. we have a long intestine , chew our food like grazing animals and sweat through our skin. meat eating animals tend to be fur covered, short intestine and sweat through their tongue!!
add to that the fact that we could feed the UK without virtually any imports, on a 7th of the farmland currently used [and provide a massive workforce with a career for life] if we stopped eating meat as we do.
semi-veggie? good effort for checking the 'scene' out, can you have a semi non drinker?!!! sorry it does sound in balance to me [opinionated bitter type!!]
peace
