If you are sprouting for food, here's what I do:

Get a tall dark jar, like instant ice tea. Put a tablespoon or two of seeds in the jar, add water and let soak for an hour. Put a piece of clean ladies hose over the stop and secure with strong rubber band. Drain the seeds well, shaking to get excess moisture off. Put jar in warm dark cabinet. Twice a day add fresh water to wash the sprouts, shaking off water through the hosiery. In a few days the sprouts are ready to eat.

Sprouting is a great hobby! I harvest 3 trays of fresh sprouts a day. I highly recommend the Kitchen Crop sprouter, as it makes rinsing super easy (I have sprouted all of my life, and been through many types of sprouters-this is by far the best-about 12-15 dollars on ebay) There are SO many things to sprout-you can sprout alfalfa, mung, clover, radish, lentil, peas, sunflowers, almonds, chia (think chia pet-google it) fennungreek (the main flavor in curry) chickpeas, brocolli, etc. You can get seeds at most health food stores for very little money. You need only a tablespoon per tray. Soak the seeds for 4 hours, rinse, drain, put in tray. Rinse them 3 times a day with fresh water to kill off anerobic bacteria. Keep them in a dark corner of the kitchen, away from drafts. They will usually start to sprout within 12 hours, and are ready to harvest in 2 to 3 days. Visit sproutman.com for more ideas. Good luck. I love to juice the sprouts with other fresh veggies, and they are great in tortilla wraps!

Alfalfa seeds, sunflower seeds. mung bean, soybeans, etc...

Soak the seeds for at least 8 hours and then drain and put in a quart jar and put a nylon or cheesecloth over the opening and seal with a rubber band around the jar opening edges. Just water the seeds as often as you wish and then drain with the jar upside down and then leave it lying horizontal on the bottle's side.

I planted mine as per the directions, and bought a "grow light" from walmart. It is gust a floresent light that you mount under the cupboard, then i left the flower pots under the light for 8 hours at a time. after about three days the began to sprout, once they are a bit bigger I will transplant them in the garden. Have fun.
