In Kundalini meditation, there are many types of meditation.
Kundalini Gnanam, the Practice of the Great Siddhars gives that practice can be done at any instant since U have Ur conciousness immersed in the divine sensation and U can be engaged in duties just like a Kumbham dancer( has a kumbham in head), as she/he dances she does not leave the kumbham to fall .Just like that this is really possible when the meditations are done in a proper manner. This is also mentioned in books like Kavalya Navaneetham as , Gnanis may rule the world or be performing artists or businessmen or beggars. It is possible to meditate 24 hrs/ day whether it may be travel, dance or any other work

As you are walking it would be good to practice a kind of open-mind meditation, in which you look at what is around you and take it all in without judgement. As you are waiting for the bus you could do the same thing, or if you are in circumstances in which it is safe to close your eyes, you could meditate, as long as you don't fall asleep and miss the bus. :)

The saintly person's life and all actions and thoughts are all meditation,as he is pure-hearted,guided by wise teachings or spiritual master, who have proved in history that such behaviour is the right one.
Since getting up early,he offers prayers to the Lord, then takes pure veg breakfast, then goes to work or temple, avoiding sinful work, like those dealing with meat selling, liquor selling, casinos or other gambling, and doesn't meditate on sex all the time.
A more serious religious man passes his time preaching to others about spiritual life, and count on the generosity of people for some simple food to eat and lodging,as all his time is spent for God's glory.
So,it's not good to try to meditate, while eating a meat sandwich, and going to the butcher's shop or the prostitute!

Yes you can meditate outside.
Be careful if you try to meditate while walking in the street. If you loose sense of your surroundings you might get hit by traffic. You should probably try while walking in a park.

Meditation or Dhyana is one of the angas (limbs) in the astanga-yoga (eight limbs) process.
The eight limbs are:-
1.yama- means controlling the senses
2.niyama- following strict regulations, rules and regulation
3.asana-sitting postures.
4.pranayama- breathing exercise
5.pratyahara-drive out sense objects such as sound, touch, form, taste and smell
6.dharana- trance, concentration of the mind.;
7.DHYANA- MEDITATION
8.samadhi -being absorbed in Vishnu or Krishna consciousness.

The result of the above process is that the yogi meditates or sees the Supersoul(Paramatma), the plenary portion of Krishna as Vishnu within himself. Krishna is situated as Supersoul in the heart of everyone. It is mentioned that, "As a blazing fire burns everything within a room, Lord Vishnu, situated in the heart of the yogi, burns up all kinds of impurities."

Obviously, the above eight-limbed process cannot be practice anywhere. One should go to a secluded sacred place in a forest etc...

Bu, the Hare Krishna Japa Meditation which is the process in the Kali-yuga, can be done anywhere, inside or outside, when walking to school and waiting for bus etc....

Different scriptures state that in Kali-yuga, the chanting of the Hare Krishna mahamantra is the process. For instance, Srimad Bhagavatam(12.3.52) states, "Whatever result was obtained in Satya-yuga by meditating on Vishnu, in Treta-yuga by performing sacrifices, and in Dvapara-yuga by serving the Lord's lotus feet can be obtained in Kali-yuga simply by chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra."

The four process in the four yugas are:-
1. Satya-yuga by meditating on Vishnu,
2. Treta-yuga by performing sacrifices,
3. Dvapara-yuga by serving the Lord's lotus feet in the temples
4. Kali-yuga simply by chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra.

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.

If fact, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has declared in his famous instruction of eight verses (Siksastaka), there are no hard and fast rules concerning time, place etc.. for performing this meditation of Hare Krishna Mahamantra.

Yes... that is the question, how do I do it? We need to understand the meaning of meditation before we can truly indulge in meditation.

Meditation in Hindi means yoga. And yoga came into existence from the root word Yog... the attempt of the soul atman within our body to merge with the supreme soul... the God Almighty himself! This is the sum and substance of meditation. Meditation as normally thought of is not sitting in a darkened room and concentrating our thoughts on the centre of a dimly lit bulb.

If that were so... what would be we really concentrating our thoughts on. The dimly lit bulb is only medium... it is the path but where is the goal? Yoga nee meditation is an automatic process. The moment a human being is born... we start practicing yoga meditation though inherently. The presence of soul atman within our body residing within our heart prompts us to do so.

It is our soul atman within that has manifested the body and not vice versa. Our soul atman residing within our heart has manifested the body to remove the dross within. By performance of karma, life after life we try to remove the dross within. The complete dross within the soul atman having removed... it reaches the stage of enlightenment and salvation... in fact, our soul atman within liberates from the cycle of birth and death forever.

A human being reaching the stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and salvation (moksha) announces that the cosmic life cycle of the soul atman within has completed... it has reached the 8.4 millionth manifestation! Thereafter it is a journey to the abode of God, the kingdom of God (aka Baikuntha in Hinduism).

Having understood the meaning of meditation yoga... one can definitely perform meditation everywhere and in any form. For removing the dross from within the soul atman... one needs to pray to God, chant various mantras to eradicate the impurities within. The prime purpose of meditation is gaining absolute control over the five senses and the mind. The moment this happens one reaches the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi.

Reaching the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi means one can have dialogue with God on one-to-one basis permanently. It also announces the full awakening of the Kundalini that results in reaching the stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana).

Every serious seeker of spirituality can perform meditation following the path of Neti (not this, not this) as practiced and advocated by Maharishi Ramana. Neti is best practiced in the Shavasana pose of yoga. Neti means negating the presence of everything except God Almighty. This is a sure shot method of reaching God at the earliest. Seems fine.... such as scripture memorization and dwelling on the meaning and application to your life. Start with a prayer for wisdom and that God's Holy Spirit will "whisper" to you.
