It is not illegal for more than one aircraft to occupy a taxiway. Look at any busy airport in the world and you will see many aircraft queued on the taxiways waiting to line up on the runway.

More than one aircraft can occupy a runway. Many military and civil aerobatic aircraft takeoff in formation. Commercial airliners are under spacial restrictions, meaning that they must leave enough room between aircraft to avoid potential damage from collisions and jetwash. However it is not usual for one aircraft to line up on the runway, while the previous is midway down the runway either taking off or landing.

The Tenerife disaster occurred because of lack of ground radar systems (the air traffic controllers could not see the aircraft visually and had no radar to see them with) and miscommunication between pilots and air traffic control (one pilot thought he heard the instruction to take off and the other failled to allert atc that he was still on the runway). The 2 747's where taxiing on the runway rather than taxiways because of a change in wind direction at an airport that was not intended to handle them,. They had been diverted there becuase another airport had temporarily closed.

I've seen the whole formation of 9 Red Arrows take off at the same time and move in to a 9-ship formation as the gear was coming up. Nothing illegal about it, it's just not something you'd want to try with big aircraft.

You will often see a whole row of aircraft on a taxiway at a busy airport, it's also not uncommon to see a jet taxi into position on a runway as soon as the previous landing traffic has gone by and before they have cleared the runway.

The thing you can't do is bring two heavy aircraft throught the same piece of airspace within a couple of minutes of each other, the turbulent air from the leading a/c can cause severe problems for the follower.

It is not illegal. I have lined up on a runway for takeoff many times prior to the preceding aircraft lifting off the runway. This is simply a time saver. However, while landing, we will not land on the runway until the aircraft preceding us has either turned off of the runway or lifted back into the air. This is simply a safety measure to prevent a collision.

It is not illegal, it is more like costing a real deal of danger. Two planes especially large aircraft like the Boeing 747 has a large wingspan and if flown with a aircraft behind it or in front of it, it has a large chance of crashing. But in some air shows, jet planes are seen lifting side to side with one just a little bit faster.

its not illegal but putting two planes on the same runway is dangerous. putting two planes on the same taxiway is fine as long as they're not too close to each other

The answers above are right in stating that neither of the conditions are "illegal".
