Many reasons. The cost to see the doctor. The cost of the medicine. The fear of finding out that something is really wrong. The fear of pain, like getting a shot. Not wanting to waste your time sitting in a room of sick people. It is just an unpleasant experience, when you are feeling bad and just want to go to bed or be left alone.

Quite honestly I feel that many hate going to the doctors because you can't really trust anybody anymore. So many doctors are on trial for murder, rape, improper or unethical conduct, etc., and overall the world is just becoming more and more a place where distrust is mounting excessantly. The smaller of it is that people don't want to be diagnosed with ailments; they'd rather just "live the lie"...live without knowing [if they have something].

I believe it's because they all think that a headache is a tumor and pins and needles is MS! People always think the worst and doctors are the bearers of bad tidings. Actually, when you go to the doctor and he says that it's something simple to treat and you ARE going to live, it's quite a relief!

Doctors know stuff that we don't and we have to take what they say on trust - when you read the papers and see Shipman (a one in about 10 million chance) you don't!

Anyway, I think the dentist is worse!

The problem that a lot of people have with doctors is due to the "Ostritch Syndrome".
What the ostritch syndrome? Its where the people bury their heads in the sand when they first have a health problem, hoping it will go away by itself. Then when it gets too bad to bear then they go and see the doctor.
When they are told by the doctor that they would have been easier to treat earlier, they think its the doctors fault, and if they have gone beyond help, then its the doctor who let them down.
Ostritch Syndrome also relates to the fact they KNOW how to eat properly, they KNOW that smoking is bad for them, they KNOW that too much alcohol is no good, they KNOW they should exercise, BUT.........They are going to do it until becoming too sick to ignore all the info that they already had. Ostritches, like I said.

Some people hate going to the dr because they are scared of needles and such. Others hate going because they may have had a bad experience, or heard of a bad experience from someone else.

I don't like going to the dr because I would rather not have a lot of health problems but I have two drs that I like very well and going to them makes the experience a little more bearable for me since I know that I have to go often.

It's the fear of knowing the worst.
Most people would rather not know how sick they might actually be.
Also, MD's can be rather intimidating, rude, arrogant, and non-communicative.
Then it's the time and money lost.
This is also true of attorneys in some cases.
I'm married to an RN and people LOVE nurses, in comparison.

In my case it's the fear from pain and death... And you meet there a bunch of sick people. It's pretty grim.

Try to make your place more relaxing and cheerful, and smile a lot. But I think all doctors have failed so far. You just can't overcome the atmosphere of passing away.
