I agree with Sokokl RSD will definitely affect any area you have surgery. I have RSD and I know what a nightmare it is. The last surgery I had was on my back and it's never Fully recovered and that was seventeen years ago.

Obviously you had to do the heart surgery, so don't kick yourself for it. Sometimes there just aren't good alternatives.

Be sure you use a Multi vitamin in capsule form every day to help your body fight to recover.

best wishes,

Did you tell the heart doc. that you might have RSD? I also have RSD for 8 years now, at least I was diagnosed with it. I was never sure I had it and I'm still not sure. I've done extensive reading on the subject and I suggest you do the same. Most doctors don't know much about RSD if anything at all. It is a diagnosis of elimination. Is your foot red and burning? My hand was 8 yrs ago but now its not. I have read that if you go to the dentist for an extraction or root canal that it could trigger the RSD. We are suppose to tell all doctors before any procedure about the condition. Are you in pain management? If not, you need to be. Read everything you can on the disease. Good luck

Yes, it's possible that the RSD could affect the area where they cut. I know of someone on another list for chronic pain that has RSD and the drs don't want to do much in the way of procedures because they are scared that her RSD would worsen further.

It can spread to other places in your body, and surgery and other things can trigger it to spread. You should see your doctor and see if there is anything they can do because if it is spreading then the sooner you are able to get treatment the better your chances are to having it go away. You may also want to look into some other treatments for you RSD like a Spinal Cord Stimulator, blocks, etc. I hope that it hasn't spread! I know how you feel.
