Lemons are great for lightening so spritz it with lemon juice before you go out in the sun. Or just do lemon treatments (soak in lemon juice, wrap wet hair with a hot damp towel, leave on 30 min) This will make it dry out a little though so be sure to do a conditioning treatment on occasion (lather conditioner on dry hair let sit for 20 min then rinse and wash normally)

Sun is damaging to hair -- it really drys it out. Putting lemon juice in your hair and then sitting in the sun is even worse. It's not chemical free, first of all, because the natural chemicals in the citrus aren't lightening your hair without damage. Second, unless you plan to wash the lemon juice out of your hair immediately, you're doing a lot of damage to your hair by leaving those chemicals in there to keep eating away at the follicles. It's like putting hair dye in your hair and leaving it there for the day.

Spend time in the sun. When I lived in the tropics my hair was a light brown, and some times even have the classic sun streak (a light patch of hair that people in colder climes have to use chemicals to get).

But if I got my hair cut, it would go back to being fairly dark (the roots were out of the sun and stayed dark).

But going into the sun will damage your skin.

I'm assuming you've never dyed your hair...
If it's black/dark brown, not alot.
If it's brown/blonde, get a lot of sun.
Are you against natural bleaching? If not, use fresh lemon juice, and go sit in the sun with that in. I hear oranges work too.
