The scapegoat took the sin of the owner and was released into the wilderness to carry the sin away from the sinner and the area where he lived.

Leviticus 16:10 - But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.

Leviticus 16:26 - And he that let go the goat for the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into the camp.

The scapegoat was a goat that was driven off into the wilderness as part of the ceremonies of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, in Judaism during the times of the Temple in Jerusalem. The rite is described in Leviticus 16.

The word is more widely used as a metaphor, referring to someone who is blamed for misfortunes, generally as a way of distracting attention from the real causes. Also referred to as the fall guy.

I don't know about Hindu use of the word, but in the Bible the firstborn child was sacred to God and supposed to be set apart for His work. However, a family could sacrifice a goat to redeem their child, and the goat was called a scapegoat.

Rainbows have always brought a smile on my face...its a sign of optimism and joy when the sun shines in the horizon after a heavy down pour...i still remember during my school days i used to run towards rainbows trying to find out where exactly it is located and take a closer look at the beauty of nature. For me rainbows will always fill my heart with joy and happiness. Great Question !! TC!

The "scapegoat" goes back to very early OT Jewish religious practice of a Levitical priest transferring sin from a person to the scapegoat...an actual goat...which was then set on its own to die in the wilderness.

The goat upon whose head the sins of the people were laid on the Day of Atonement, and which was afterwards sent off into the wilderness (Lev. 16: 21-22).

It has several meanings and these are two of them:
1) Somebody made to take all the blame for others
2) in psychology- somebody who has been blamed unjustly for causing upset or distress by another person who is unwilling to take personal responsibilities for his or her actions.
