I need help getting rid of the awful smell of cat urine fast. I'm having my in-laws over this weekend and my female cat has desided to use my carpet as her bathroom, the litters boxes are clean, I clean them every other day. Is there any one that can tell me what to do. I plan on getting my carpets cleaned by a pro when the weather gets nicer so I just need something to help remove the odor now. PLEASE HELP

You can buy pet odor eliminators from petshops specially for this purpose. I'd try them and Febreze if you don't have time to shampoo the carpet - or possibly I'd do all 3 just to be on the safe side!

1st - Wet down and soak up as much of it as you can do by hand, being careful not to spread it further. 2nd - Pour a box of baking soda on it for 24 hrs. then vaccum up. 3rd - If you don't have a carpet cleaner then rent a Rug Dr. Use Dawn dishsoap instead of the normal carpet cleaner soap. About 1 tsp. in the water container. You may have to do this for quite some time and even refill the container 2 or 3 times but for all the hard work you'll do it does work. After you let it dry then pour another box of baking soda on it for another 24 hrs. and vaccum up. The smell won't totally go away. I don't know if that's even possible, but Dawn works better than anything I've ever tried because cat urine is oily. Trust me on this, we have 7 cats! Good Luck!

You might need to take the cat to the vet...mine did this and it turned out to have a urinary tract infection...or if you changed the litter recently that might do it too...also change the food to one that controls the pH of the urine this will help with the smell..also baking soda works to absorb odors

go to the store and where the stuff is for spraying stuff there is an arm and hammer baking soda thing for pet odors sprinkle it all over your carpet wait a half hour than vacuum. It is safe for children and the pets. this will make it real nice. And there are some stuff out there designed to make your cats not piss there anymore.

The quickest way is to soak the wee'd on areas with white vinegar. Not only does it neutralize the smell it will also stop her doing it again there.
If your cat is only just doing this, take her to the vet to find out if there is a urinary infection.

mix tea tree oil in a spray bottle with water (one part tea tree to 6 parts water)and spray the effected areas, cats don't like the smell so she shouldn't go back to those spots again.
