So, theoretically, I could drink, smoke, gamble, cheat, lie, get an abortion, murder someone and as long as I confess my sins to god before I die, I'm going to heaven? Plus, if Jesus already died for my sins, what would I really have to ask for redemption for? This just doesn't seem like much incentive to love a sin free life.

This is a theoretical question, meant to educate, so don't get your panties in a twist.

I think the main purpose of having a God is so the people on Earth will try to live civilly in the case that there is a Heaven and Hell. I am not a religious person nor am I an atheist, I am the kind of person who would only like some proof, hopefully the proof won't come when it's too late, ie. Hell.

**I love how mad people get at such a simple opinion related question!

Yes, you could do all these things, and ask for Jesus to forgive you just before you die and be forgiven (by Him) and go to Heaven. Just remember, that in Heaven, you're going to have to give an account for how you lived your life.
As to the rest of your question, I give you this example.

Say I am a very wealthy man. I don't know you, have never seen or heard of you. I see you walking on the street and tell you, "I have deposited $10 million in Bank of America in your name, tax free. It is a gift to you." And say that I actually have gone to Bank of America and put $10 million in an account in your name. Now, I am there, tell you that the money is there, and the money is, in fact, there, in your name. Do you benefit anything at all from the money if you don't believe that it's there? No. Same with forgiveness. If you don't believe you need it, you probably wouldn't want it and wouldn't care about it, just as with $10 million, if you already had $10 billion, you wouldn't really care about the $10 million. But even if you did verify the money was actually there, if you don't accept it as your own, it doesn't get you anything, and when your bills come, you don't have the money to pay them, even though you do have it available to you. You gain no benefit from the money until you a) accept that it is there and yours for the taking, and b) accept the money as your own. God has given you a gift of forgiveness of sin. It benefits you nothing if you don't accept that it's there and if you don't accept it as your own. And, as with the money, if you don't accept it, when it's time to pay the penalty for your sins, you'll have to pay the price yourself, instead of accepting the gift, which is more than sufficient to pay the bill.

You have to be saved by the blood of Jesus Christ to enter into Heaven. No one lives a sin free life. You will not receive redemption unless you believe on him and ask for it. Just saying your sorry before you die aint gunna make it no mater who you are talking to. I'm not saying that you cant be saved on your death bed but if you talk with him now about it, I'm sure you will find the incentive to give it a try.

God gives us grace a believers to get our lives right while we are here. He knows already that Christians will make mistakes. However, when you deliberately sin and willfully sin is where you are walking on thin ice. There is no guarantee that if you live a life of sin that you will get to make a confession on your death bed. Most accidents happen so fast your dead before you know it. Hebrews 10:26 says, "For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins. but a certain fearful expectation of judgement, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries". Jesus died for us to pull us out of our sinful lives. However, if we chose to go back to it after we have recieved the truth, then as that passage said in Hebrews. Hell will be waiting.

The problem with our thinking is that we feel God to be an authority who is indulging in our affairs. The fact however is that God is a facilitator for us to get the eternal happiness.

We are not created, nor the matter (maya) is created by God. All the three of us are eternally present. So the mess is already there from times eternal, and will remain for times eternal. However for those of us who understand the logics of our existence, we automatically will get devoted to God, because it is He who knows everything.

Since we are looking not towards but away from God we are sinners.

Asking for forgiveness will only help if and when we understand the basic concept of our being in this world with the help of a true (living) saint, whom God has sent for our benefit. When we cry out loud , the saint will appear in front of us!

Sin isn't some thing more suitable than a way for the writers of the bible to make human beings sense responsible and ashamed of residing their lives regularly. the finished idea that you're doing some thing undesirable and could be forgiven by God, is only yet otherwise for the writers of the bible to objective to regulate and administration human beings.

I can understand where you are coming from. But maybe think of it this way. Jesus did give his life so that you can have eternal life but really if he did all this wouldn't you want to show your gratitude by aiming to model your life on his. His sacrificing love is the only thing standing between us and eternal life in hell. Personally I want to do everything I can to show just how much I appreciate that.

well if you repent ( or turn away from practicing sin)
then you would not want to be a 12th hour Christan.
true repentance means your sorry for your sin not to live like a pirate and then look for a loophole.
If God's spirit truly dwell within you he gives you the power to overcome sin.
the bible says "do not let evil overtake you but you overtake evil"

asking for forgiveness and repentance are two different things. It's not just about asking for forgiveness, its about repenting. Asking for forgiveness with the intention of not making the same mistakes again.

You are only forgiven if you are truly sorry. You might be able to fool yourself, but you can't fool God, where your sincerity is concerned.
