Huge thumbs up to poppy. Everything she says is right
First person on here who seems to have a good grip on the whole green house gas/ ozone hole debate (they are two DIFFERENT issues).
I have recopied a post I wrote earlier which gives a little more information;
Sorry for the long post. I hope it helps.
Global warming and the hole in the ozone layer are two different things.
CFC's cause the hole in the ozone layer (they also contribute to global warming but only in a very minor way). Their use has largely been banned for awhile now. The evidence is that the hole in the ozone layer is starting to return to normal.
Global warming is caused by a number of different substances. The biggest contributor to global warming is water vapour in the atmosphere. The more moisture in the atmosphere the higher the average temperature of the Earth. The next biggest contributor is CO2. CO2 on its own does not increase the temperature that much. However, there is something called positive feedback. What this means is that as one factor increases it has secondary effects which cause a futher increase. In this case the small increase in temperature caused by the CO2 causes more water vapour to be absorbed by the atmosphere and this increases the average temperature of the Earth a lot.
We don't have a direct effect on the level of water in the atmosphere. However, we do have a direct effect on the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Also there is very strong historical evidence that the level of CO2 in the atmosphere is related to the average temperature of the earth. This is why CO2 is talked about so much.
There are numerous positive feedback effects in place, the above is just one. It is the complexity of these interactions which leads to debates by our scientists. This leads to a lot of different views. Unfortunately the ones that usual get aired by the media and interest groups are the ones that most suit there political purpose. That is the oil companies will highlight the reports saying that global warming is a myth and the green groups will highlight the ones that are all doom and gloom. This generally leads to confusuion by the general public.
What is the real situation. In my opinion it lies somewhere in between.

My god. The world has gone retarded.
Global warming has NOTHING to do with the ozone layer.
Global warming has NOTHING to do with UV rays.
The natural greenhouse effect is due to infrared rays being trapped upon reflection by atmospheric CO2, H2O, CH4, and other trace gases. This net influx of energy warms the air and provides livable temperatures on Earth.
Recently, increases in CO2 emissions have led some to think that the planet is in an imbalance that will soon cause massive destruction and death among the people of the Earth.
Since you seem to be young, I won't give you any opinion on the subject, but ask you to be a skeptic first and a believer second. Science that requires massive human cooperation/sacrifice must be able to stand up against the most relentless of scrutiny (re: Galileo).

Global warming is caused by ultraviolet waves going through holes in the ozone layer.
It warms the Earth in a process called the green house effect(i think) and could cause the northern and southern poles to melt, causing a global climate change.

Global Warming is the rise of the average temperature of Earth. U might b knowing abt greenhouse gases. Ok, I will tell u if u dont know. Some gases like Carbon Dioxide present in the atmosphere trap the hot sun rays n reflect them towards Earth tus making our Earth warm. But if the percentage of these greenhouse gases(mainly carbon dioxide) increases, then too much of sun`s heat is trapped n reflected towards Earth. This results in rise in average temperature of Earth.
Global warming has many ill-effects. Due to rise in temperature, the glaciers and other ice bodies will melt and the sea level will rise which will cause flooding of coastal areas. Many plants n animals also show poor growth due to rise in temperature.

Global warming is the observed increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation.
Global average air temperature near Earth's surface rose 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.3 ± 0.32 °F) during the last century. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes, "most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations,"[1] which leads to warming of the surface and lower atmosphere by increasing the greenhouse effect. Other phenomena such as solar variation and volcanoes have probably had a warming effect from pre-industrial times to 1950, but a cooling effect since 1950.[1] These conclusions have been endorsed by at least 20 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the G8 states. Some scientists disagree with parts of this conclusion as does the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.[2] Only a few of these dissenting scientists specialize in climate science.
Models referenced by the IPCC predict that global temperatures are likely to increase by 1.1 to 6.4 °C (2.0 to 11.5 °F) between 1990 and 2100.[1] The range of values reflects the use of differing scenarios of future greenhouse gas emissions as well as uncertainties regarding climate sensitivity. Although most studies focus on the period up to 2100, warming and sea level rise are expected to continue for more than a millennium even if no further greenhouse gases are released after this date.[1] This reflects the long average atmospheric lifetime of carbon dioxide (CO2).
An increase in global temperatures can in turn cause other changes, including a rising sea level and changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation. There may also be increases in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, though it is difficult to connect specific events to global warming. Other consequences include changes in agricultural yields, glacier retreat, reduced summer streamflows, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors.
Remaining scientific uncertainties include the exact degree of climate change expected in the future, and especially how changes will vary from region to region across the globe. A hotly contested political and public debate also has yet to be resolved, regarding whether anything should be done, and what could be cost-effectively done to reduce or reverse future warming, or to deal with the expected consequences. Most national governments have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol aimed at combating greenhouse gas emissions.

ok so global warming is this stuff that happened because lots of pollution got up into the air and it eventually broke a whole in the atmosphere and letting the suns violent rays which is filtered by the atmosphere come in. but once it comes in it doesn't go out so it stays on earth so increasing the earths temperature. it is like a greenhouse effect where hot gas and air is trapped inside something. for more information theres a book that the ex vice president of united states wrote called the "inconvenient truth" it is so popular that its a movie now
good luck

the 1st couple articles describe the physics. why the problem exists, what motives it, etc. then there are a pair that tutor the background. did you recognize that CO2 triggered international warming replace into estimated better than a hundred years in the past? that's real. there is an editorial that shows the relationship between el nino and international warming. and there are numerous articles, from many distinctive supplies, that talk concerning to the problem. .

The Ozone is depleting due to our worldy practices.
If we do not take interest in our environment, our great, great, great, great, great, grandchildren's grandchildren will burn up upon birth.
However, there's no real reason to change your practices. Because by that time Earthlings will live on another planet by then.

there is a lot of evidence of man made climate change .and there are many reasons to hide the truth
scientists who work for politicians ,get paid by these politicians and they have downplayed the facts because solutions are expensive and means change and change effects many peoples incomes, and upsets profit margins,so most of the world is kept in the dark of the real things that are going on.for political and economic reasons
Global warming is a very complex collection of many effects
this text only covers some aspects of global warming ,mainly agriculture i.e.effects of deforestation and subsequent man made desertification
water and air polution such as caused by
industrial contamination ,the contaminating effects of the cities(the internal combustion engine) ,are other stories,
and all of these are also man made ,such as the high industrial chimneys pumping contamination into the clouds and the burning of tires, some of this polution has been found in the ice in the polar regions
there are natural cycles in the planets life
but a lot is influenced by mans existance ,and this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms
climate change is caused in great parts by desertification ,and most desertification is caused by man
the thinner ozone layer helps to speed this up.and this is caused mainly by air polution ,also as a result of mans actions
DEFORESTATION
in the past
the Building of the Spanish Armada deforrested Spain
the Phoenician trading fleet turned Lebanon in a dessert
Ganges Khan put everything to the sword and torch, then filled the wells with sand,
the sun finished of the job and whole countries turned to wastelands.
He would have been envious of the effects of modern day farming.Slash and burn destroys the protective vegetation (which helps to form the soil ),
leaving it open to the Sun ,and then ,wind and, water erosion.
The Plough turns the soil ,killing micro-biotic life (essential to soil building) and accelerates the drying out .
Pressures of the :vehicles, cattle and rain impact brings the salt to the surface.
Mono cultures ,aided by chemicals Exhaust and pollutes the soil .
Adding to this the effects of overgrazing has resulted in large scale desertification.
expanding populations and expanding farming ,that has to keep pace with the expanding populations are very strong forces that encroach upon the rainforest's
clearing them for farming and settlement areas .
In Mexico is a famous jungle that the Media has been trying to save for years
the Naturists ,and the government ,keep watch .laws are made for protection the wild and to forbid logging.
TV put out a series of documentaries
there are campaigns in the News papers
and all of this has not made the slightest difference
Rainforest's always are in third world countries and always in third world countries corruption and the need for money s highest
go to the countries on the equator ,check what has happened in history
and listen to what is going on in the many disaster areas on this planet today,(and there are more each year )
: i have seen lands that have been turned from jungle into desserts by people in a matter of a couple of years ,because of the slash and burn method used by settlers and expanding agriculture, and i have seen rivers dry up because of deforrestation in many places in Africa and Mexico ,
there are natural cycles in the planets life
but a lot is influenced by mans existance ,and this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms
in North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification and some have died as a result
in china, thousands of what used to be farmers are running for their lives from the dust storms that have burried their towns and turned their lands into dessert,
,the Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year
and all of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions ,and they are increasing ,not getting less ,in the dinosaurs days ,there were no desserts.
collectively this planet is drying up because of bad farming practices like, over grazing and fertilizers,
each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss
and there is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,
and there are less and less farmers to do it..
who are overpumping deep carbon aquifiers
who are plowing more and more unstable lands because they have lost so many million hectares to desertification ,
because of bad farming practises ,such as using fertilizers and heavy machinary or over grazing
RISING SEAS
The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.
this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.but the melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter
Global warming could be slowed down to some extent, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,
At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where, instead of just some third world countries
